To ring in sick when I might not be ?

I have had a really tough couple of weeks and I am now completely exhausted and I just can't concentrate on anything .
I have got a hospital appt on monday which may or may not tell me I have cancer . I am freaking out and just can't face going to work .

Should I just suck it up and go in anyway or
Phone in sick and try and get some more sleep ?

The other problem is if I do ring in sick what do I tell them ?

Exhaustion, anxiety and stress are illnesses. If you call in sick, that's what you tell them. On the other hand, sometimes the best way to deal with anxiety is to take your mind off it by throwing yourself into your work. Good luck on Monday.

I would take the Monday off. Whatever the result it will be an emotional day for you. Tell them you have a hospital appointment and you don't know how long you will be there.
Best wishes for Monday.

Thank you for the good wishes , I work wed - sun so monday is not a problem .

I have been going to work since this all started but it is really not helping , I work with mostly elderly ill people who like to tell you all about every illness known to man which isn't really helping take my mind of things .

I hate ringing in sick , I just don't want them asking too many question .

Thank you , I have made the dreaded phone call , thankfully got someone who asked me no questions , I am sure someone will ring me later but I will deal with that when it happens .

Surely they are not allowed to ring you later OP to ask why you are ill when you are OFF work ill?

Hope it is good news on Monday.

I think you'd be perfectly justified in taking time off. I know how I felt when my mother was having tests, that was bad enough.

Fingers really tightly crossed for a good outcome on Monday. Take care x

cheshire I am sure they will ring and try and find out how long I will be off . I am going to give my lovely gp a ring soon and I am sure she will sign me off for a few days .

I am just a wee bit demented at the minute and don't really think I am fit for work .

I am going to try and relax but if that doesn't work I have plenty of gutsy jobs to do in the house which will keep me occupied .
