To feel irritated by my mother

Firstly because the xmas card she wrote she has already shortened my 6 week old babys name. It's a beautiful name 'Jessica' and she wrote my boys names in full and then put 'jess'. To be fair she's generally irritating anyway at moment. I upgraded phone to iphone4 (free upgrade) and whe she sawy new phone she went out next day to upgrade hers and called me to say "I've got a better phone the 4s." I don't really care if she has a better phone etc but her mentality is annoying.

Yanbu, that would piss me right off as well.

Groovee · 06/12/2011 18:09

That would irritate me too

PersistentWorrier · 06/12/2011 19:39

How irritating. My sister had the opposite problem - called her daughter Katie but we had this really prim-and-proper aunt who insisted on writing 'Katherine' on every bday and xmas card, and pretending she didnt hear when we corrected her. She was there when DNiece was christened as Katie fgs! Not sure how we resisted slapping her...

Hotpotpie · 06/12/2011 20:09

that would really annoy me to be fair, but then my MIL went out and bought a dog the week before we could pick ours up and named it the name we wanted so Im well used to petty behaviour and no less immune to it!

I expect you will irritate your kids when they have grown up Xmas Grin

Thingumy · 06/12/2011 20:11

Confused at the whole thread.

baubleybobbityhat · 06/12/2011 20:49

How pathetic you both sound, fretting over who has the better phone ffs.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 06/12/2011 20:51

My mum spells all the DS's names the way she thinks they should be spelt.
AND when they were born she told the whole extended family how she thought they should be spelt.

So all the cards from my family mis spell my boys' names.

Now that is irritating.

Ho ho ho.

thegirlwithnoname · 06/12/2011 20:57

DD is called Lois, my much loved and much missed Gran truly did miss hear her name and called her LoisT for a year until my cousin called her up on it, boy was my darling Granny mortified.
She then quizzed the parent of every one of her great grandchildren over and over to make sure she pronounced their baby's name right.

IneedAChristmasNickname · 06/12/2011 20:59

*hotpotpie my MIL went out and bought a dog the week before we could pick ours up and named it the name we wanted so Im well used to petty behaviour and no less immune to it! this reminds me of my SIL who was pg with her DC1 when I was pg with DC2. She told me they were going to call him (when she found out what she was having) 'X', then when he was born, called him 'Y'. When I asked what made her change her mind, she said she was going to call him 'Y' all along, but 'knew' that I would 'steal the name' I wouldn't have btw, and was rather Hmm that she thought that!

OP YANBU! I get pissed off with people shortening DS2s name, and when I correct them, or ask them not to, I get told I should have picked a name that can't be shortened!
