Why do people think it is ok to blow snot from their noses in the street, was in town with dd in buggy when this young girl about 20 stopped in front of me with her finger on one side of her nose blew her snot out OMG I thought I would heave there and then and away she went as if it was normal!!!In the last few weeks I have seen a couple of people really go for a big rev it at the back of your throat spit in the street and one woman when she saw me looking at her did it again...vile woman.A few years ago there was this bloke who worked in the office next door and he reguarly would be outside in street on a fag break and if you were unlucky enough to see him you might catch him blowing snot from his nose on street pavements as well....what is wrong with people have they never heard of tissues?or sniff it up until you have some privacy like in a bathroom....do people have no self respect anymore??

Cultural? when we lived in Bangkok it was acceptable for the taxi driver to use his specially grown long little fingernail to excavate his nose.
I agree with you though, spitting and snotting are disgusting.
YANBU.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 03/12/2011 07:45

Inside countries this is acceptable behaviour ..... This one will kick off soon!

But YANBU, it is gross! Goes back to the behaviour of Victorian times when people shit in the streets etc, or whenever that was!

OnlyWantsOne · 03/12/2011 07:47

YANBU

grose

But then again im freaky cautious when it comes to body products .

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 03/12/2011 07:47

In some countries, not inside them!

MistressFrankly · 03/12/2011 07:52

It makes me heave. Cant stand snotters and spitters. Yesterday two guys at the bus stop were casually spitting without looking where they were aiming. One only just missed DD in her pram Angry and they both incurred a full on rant about public decency, respect and hygiene. They were very apologetic and looked so pleased when their bus arrived. There is just no need.

I once caught a lad snotting INSIDE my club, on a carpet in a nice lounge area. Inside?? Outside is bad but inside is just vile. I made him clean it up with soapy water in front of his mates Grin

lucky4 · 03/12/2011 07:55

glad you decent folk agree with me..I mean do they think no one can see them or do they really not care?dont think I have any brecky now!

HairyGrotter · 03/12/2011 07:56

I find it vile, didn't they ban that sort of stuff back in the day to stop the spread of diseases?

I caught some lads who had done it in our lift, then my daughter gleefully put her finger on it as she was investigating it. I stormed up the road to catch the fuck who did it, full on mum mode activated. It's unnecessary, and just grim, utterly utterly grim.

lucky4 · 03/12/2011 07:56

Well done mistressfrankly!!!!!!!!!!!lol

Why thank you Lucky4 Grin

arf at "full on mum mode"

ShengdanRoad · 03/12/2011 08:32

It happens all the time in China, but I would be shocked to see it in the UK. Vile!

pigletmania · 03/12/2011 08:33

Cultural or not its disgusting! I have encountered it myself and it almost made me Envy. I know that the habit is quite widespread in China, but the government are trying to discourage it as it puts tourists off. Spitting spreads diseases too. In the UK its not acceptable so people should not do it.

SenoritaViva · 03/12/2011 08:42

If I visit a country I respect their cultural acceptances (hawking and spitting in Asia etc. but wouldn't partake myself!) also e.g. in Japan it is considered filthy to touch or blow your nose in public (you have to sniff until you're somewhere private) and when I was there I respected that (naturally though I had a constantly itchy nose, it was so hard!!!)

But, we are in the UK, it is not cultural here to spit and all those other hideous things. Urggh. NO NO NO NO NO.

TurkeyBurgerThing · 03/12/2011 11:22

Old men do this sometimes! Apparently it dates back to when working men's pubs had straw on them or something. It's definitely not exclusive to other countries!

I do think it's revolting though. I hate seeing people spitting too, it's gross. You may as well just pull down your keks and do a massive dump for what it's worth.

festi · 03/12/2011 11:23

maybe she had a cockroach up there Grin

squeakytoy · 03/12/2011 11:24

I find it vile, didn't they ban that sort of stuff back in the day to stop the spread of diseases?

Yes, and it is vile. It makes me feel sick too.

eurochick · 03/12/2011 11:25

It's vile and unhygenic to spit and snot everywhere. Eugh.

randommoment · 03/12/2011 11:28

YANBU. Gross and a fantastic way to spread disease. Well done everyone who's had the courage to say so in RL.

FreudianSlipper · 03/12/2011 11:34

no it is not nice

but i would not call people vile and disgusting that is a bit strong, what they are doing might be

It's not so long ago in the UK that pubs had a spittoon on the floor in each bar. In those days which I remember men would come home from work or go straight to the pub and their jobs necessitated coughing to remove gunge from their lungs. My uncle was a miner in the North East and I remember being taken to a pub and asking what the large metal bowl on the floor was. There must be other occupations involved too. It doesn't make it right to spit in public but at least there was a single spot in which to do it.

Until several years afterwards, there would be notices up saying that spitting in public was against the law because of the illnesses that could be spread (eg TB, diphtheria?). It probably still is against the law for the same reasons but no one seems to follow up a spitting incident any more than dropping litter is followed up.

emmam25 · 03/12/2011 11:45

YA definitely NBU! It is disgusting and spreads diseases like TB.

Well done anyone who's challenged it in RL!

Worst I have had to deal with is a child in a lesson who hocked one up onto the desk in front of me and the rest of the class and then proceeded to lick it up. I thought I would actually be sick!

emmam25 · 03/12/2011 11:46

Oh and it was a year 7 not primary school!

MabelLucyAttwell · 03/12/2011 11:46

SenoritaViva

I was on a bus crossing the Rocky Mountains once and a Japanese man was sitting behind me. He sneezed and it felt like rain on my arms! I had to bath when I reached my accommodation.

We were on the Athabasca Glacier and drinking handfuls of beautiful, clear, sweet, meltwater from the edge when someone shouted to us to stop because the same man had spat his muck into it further up.

MabelLucyAttwell · 03/12/2011 11:50

Oh, and I worked in a solicitor's office when I had to deal with a Pakistani man who was registering sponsorship or something. As I was talking to him, he lifted up his jumper and blew his nose on it. My first instinct was to say "We don't do that in this country" but thought better of it!.

pigletmania · 03/12/2011 13:21

Aghgg mable that spit thingy should have been in the loo not near the bar area ughh
