Have just bought it,and really like it,sure DCs will too. But surely it should include the Three Kings? Apparently they have to be bought separately! Just not on.

If it's marketed as a nativity set then YANBU imo.

EcoLady · 30/11/2011 22:26

.... but the wise men arrived later didn't they: 12th Night and all that?

BonnyBanks · 30/11/2011 22:28

I was just about to say something along the same lines Ecolady... Maybe someone at Toysrus is a Theologian?

Sorry, Playmobil not Toysrus... clearly have spent too much time in tjeir recently

Kladdkaka · 30/11/2011 22:32

Not only did they not arrive until the 6th January, but it was the 6th 2 years later.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 30/11/2011 22:35

The wise men arrived 2 years later. They weren't necessarily kings and there weren't necessarily three of them. Just three gifts.

So it looks like you won't be splashing out on more Playmobil until the start of 2014 if you're being true to history...

auntiepicklebottom2 · 30/11/2011 22:38

learn something new :)

Kladdkaka · 30/11/2011 22:45

And if I remember correctly one of the gifts (myrrh) was extremely rare and came from Sheeba (Saudi Arabia area). Or to put it another way, one of the kings forgot to bring a pressie so bought something at the service station on the way. :o

daenerysstormborn · 30/11/2011 22:47

2 years!, blimey, the school nativity is going to be a bit long winded Wink

slavetofilofax · 30/11/2011 23:30

2 years! I never knew that.

I'm glad I know before December so I can steal that piece of information and impress people with it. Thank you. Grin

OP, yabu, you should have looked at the box to see what was included.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 30/11/2011 23:45

2 years?? Talk about being late to the party!

Being as thoroughly religiously educated as I am, I did not know that, and would have expected the three Wise Men there Blush

Does this mean I have to smash the lovingly-crafted-from-clay 3 wise men we made for our Nativity last year Shock (Well, if they have survived the year in the loft- am fully expecting some missing heads/ limbs, tbh)?

Kladdkaka · 01/12/2011 00:23

Yep 2 years. The star appeared at the moment of his birth. The wise men then followed the star on foot from the east to Jerusalem where King Herod asked them when the star first appeared. They then follow it on to Bethlehem where the bible says they went into the HOUSE where the YOUNG CHILD was. The family then fled to Egypt. Shortly afterwards Herod had all the babies of 2 years or under killed because of when the wise men said the star has appeared.

SnowMuchToBits · 01/12/2011 00:39

Oh bugger, we will have to remove the three wise men/kings whatever from our nativity scene as we bought the nativity scene last year, the kings/wise men still have a year to go.....

Never mind they did well as foreign heads of state at the royal wedding this year........... (including their camel as mode of transport......)

scrivette · 01/12/2011 01:23

Oh no, I will have to remove my wise men from the stable on the windowsill at the bottom of the stairs and put them at the top of the stairs as they still have a long walk!

DoctorGilbertson · 01/12/2011 01:34

surely the three kings followed the star, and so as the star is already in the playmobil nativity scene then the three kings should be included

FairPhyllis · 01/12/2011 02:16

Someone at Playmobile is a top theologian. The arrival of the Magi is celebrated at Epiphany, not at Christmas - because they were late.

There is only one gospel source for the Magi, and it does not describe them as kings, or give their names, number etc (in parts of the Eastern Church the tradition is that there were 12 Magi). They are identified as kings in later Christian literature on the basis that their gifts were kingly, but (if they existed) they were probably Zoroastrian priest-astrologers (Magus is the Persian word for them).

flyingspaghettimonster · 01/12/2011 02:17

YANBU to like the set... it should have had a plastic stable rather than cardboard though. The kings set is pretty great too. I'm converting Mary,Joseph and baby Jesus to be poor Romans for my kids Egyptian and Roman sets... will I go to hell?

FairPhyllis · 01/12/2011 02:18

Oh yes, and they are buried in Cologne Cathedral Hmm

dancingmustard · 01/12/2011 02:42

They show them on the picture.

Iwantacampervan · 01/12/2011 08:11

A very educational thread - thanks.
A problem here - DD2 opened door 1 of her calendar this morning and it revealed two kings - 2 years and 36 days too early or maybe the door they are entering in the picture is the Premier Inn they are staying in to break their journey (and obviously they can see into the future as the star hasn't appeared yet).
Maybe they are entering the building to meet king 3 (and all the others too) ? Am I thinking too deeply into this - must get ready for school now !

hocuspontas · 01/12/2011 08:18

But they ARE part of the Nativity. They are visiting the baby Jesus you put out two years ago not the one you from this year. Grin

Ciske · 01/12/2011 08:26

The kings should be part of the set. In order to be true to history, you just have to position them a 2 year travel distance away from baby Jesus.

SnowMuchToBits · 01/12/2011 08:30

flyingspaghetti, the new nativity set which came out this year does have a plastic stable! (But we just have the old cardboard one!)

Shodan · 01/12/2011 08:34

I never knew that they arrived two years later!

Ok so what you need is another set, with Mary and Joseph looking haggard from 2 years of broken sleep and the Toddler Jesus pulling the tails of the ox and the ass. And Gabriel looking cats-bum-mouth and tapping his watch.
