My son is obsessed by the game FIFA 12 for Xbox. Both son and partner are obsessed by football.

There is a lot of football on telly in this house.

The commentator on FIFA 12 is the voice of the chap who does the commentary on the real football...I have recently found that watching football on TV, I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS REAL! I find myself thinking that it is in fact all an Xbox game, and the players are being controlled.

That is properly weird isn't it? Blush

Hee hee.
I told someone I couldn't meet up on the 1st January because 'I'm sure I'm doing something..'
Then I remembered there's a wedding on 'The Archers' that I somehow believe I'm going to.

Completely nuts.

Cathycomehome · 29/11/2011 22:49

Grin Glad I'm not the only nutter one!

No, it is not: studies have been done that show exposure to certain types of media, through outlets such as computers for example, change, or create new synaptic pathways in the brain and affect how people respond to old "new" experiences.

(Someone scientific will put this much clearer I can)

ViviPru · 29/11/2011 22:51

Grin Velvet that's brilliant!

caramelwaffle · 29/11/2011 22:52

ergo - you are not nuts

ViviPru · 29/11/2011 22:54

Sometimes When I make little errors doing a manual task, I momentarily go to try and cmd-Z to "undo" it Blush

5inthebed · 29/11/2011 22:55

I believe that somewhere on earth, there is a person who looks exactly like me, who is doig the exact same thing as me every waking moment of my/their lives. Same for everyone else on this earth. Even you

AgentProvocateur · 29/11/2011 22:55

I was just saying to DH on Saturday that I feel as if I understand Danish because we'd been watching the Killing with subtitles.

Cathycomehome · 29/11/2011 22:55

I'm not entirely sure that's reassuring, caramelwaffle - FIFA + Football has rewired my brain!!!! Shock

OP posts:
Cathycomehome · 29/11/2011 22:56

Missed posts - at least a few of us have been rewired (whispers - I also had that "I can speak Danish" thing...)

OP posts:
caramelwaffle · 29/11/2011 22:57

ViviPru Yes like that ^

I often go to "rewind" the live radio shows I am listening to if I feel I have missed something Blush

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 29/11/2011 22:59

I don't even play computer games, but Formula One looks suss to me.

ElderberrySyrup · 29/11/2011 22:59

I have pointed the remote control at my children and pressed the mute button more than once.

openerofjars · 29/11/2011 23:00

Gasp! More Danish speakers!

I once tried to lick water off my eyebrows in the shower, because I couldn't see properly. Dunno what kind of strange lizard woman I thought I'd turned into.

caramelwaffle · 29/11/2011 23:01

Cathy Yes - but not so much rewired as created new wiring that clashes with the culture of your experiences thus far.

Ooooh Danish: where is that lovely Danish thread, with the pics of lovely Danish men? Hmm Grin

Hassled · 29/11/2011 23:02

I tell the kids to PAUSE when they're all talking at once/scrapping/whatever. And they do. PAUSE means something to them.

Re the FIFA commentary thing - yes, they've all merged with me as well. And I know some of the phrases off by heart.

montmartre · 29/11/2011 23:03

Here it is

ViviPru · 29/11/2011 23:03

Yes caramel! It was your first post that reminded me of the cmd-Z thing. Its a bit like how I can't seem to help trying to interact with any kind of visual display like its an IPad style touch screen...

ElderberrySyrup · 29/11/2011 23:03

oh yes Hassled, I get asked to pause the bedtime story.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 29/11/2011 23:04

Sometimes if I'm not listening don't hear what DP says, or DS does something cute that I want DP to see, I think I can rewind it with the tv remote, like our Sky box Blush.
I'm so glad I'm not alone!!

montmartre · 29/11/2011 23:05

Actually- something weird just happened... DH has been stunned by the notion that pampas grass is a signal to swingers Hmm

How could he not know this?

Cathycomehome · 29/11/2011 23:06

I foolishly mentioned this phenomenon to the other occupants of this house. Son has taken to holding Xbox controller during Match of the Day PURPOSELY to confuse me. Very mean.

OP posts:
ViviPru · 29/11/2011 23:07

Watching live football in the flesh is weird, it's bizzare when there's a goal but no action replay when you're so anticipating one

caramelwaffle · 29/11/2011 23:07

Oh montmarte you bring me joy Grin

Cathycomehome · 29/11/2011 23:07

(We have pampas grass out the front - my BOSS informed me of it's meaning when he dropped me off once....)
