DP's mum does them (Jamaican family) and they're absolutely scrumptious - we've got here a pasty maker from Lakeland for Christmas Grin

4oz plain flour, 1oz butter, turmeric, cold water for the pastry

Then, cook an onion, some (quorn) mince and peas (the little green variety, not the "rice and peas" variety) with some spices - curry powder is the main one

Roll out pastry, cut into rounds, fill, fold, bake for 15 minutes

*her

And it's only because she likes useful pressies and we want her to make them more often

So they're like samosas then?

squeakytoy · 26/11/2011 19:49

exactly like a samosa but shortcrust pastry rather than flaky/puff/filo

SardineQueen · 26/11/2011 19:49

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2011 19:52

I've got some veggie ones in the fridge, from Sainsbo's rather than homemade though.

SantieMaggie · 26/11/2011 19:52

I didn't actually see the programme, I'm just loving being in a multi cultural relationship with a MIL who likes to cook as much as I do Grin

This looks yummy though

ouryve · 26/11/2011 20:18

I bookmarked that cake, the other day. Looks rather delicious.

TheTamingOfTheShrew · 26/11/2011 22:38

What was the pork thing he made at the end of the programme?

Jux · 26/11/2011 23:47

Oh I haven't seen a Jamaican patty since we left London. 6 YEARS!!!! Oh how I miss them.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 26/11/2011 23:48

Thank you sooo much for posting on this. And a recipe.

I thought it was a personal obsession. I have left London for Switzerland and I can't believe how much I miss patties. And my local Jamaican takeaway, and my best mates Goat curry. Sad

I was trying to watch "Topboy" and there were times I couldn't follow the story, mainly because the characters were sitting outside the street "patty wagon" and I was just watching the patties all warming in the background. Blush
