SAVING THE PLANET

LancsLassie · 25/11/2011 13:05

Since when did fruit and veg have anything to do with destroying the planet? The only time that would happen is if it has a travelling life of days to get to us. And harsh chemicals are used to grow it.

So much can be produced by local farmers. And we can buy seasonal once again like Gran used to do. We can insist our local butchers buy their meat from local farmers.

All of this yes is drastic I agree. But if you watch David's programme you have two choices. You can do this or maybe some of it. Or you can carryon the way you are going. One way will save our Planet. And the other way will Kill It.

Its as simple as that. I am responsible for my son even though he is 31 now. I have lived here all my life. I am spoilt to death. I know which way I am going with this.

It isn't obvious what you're asking,

Who is David? And what's his stance on fruit and veg?

I'm not sure that the UK is in a position to produce all of the food required for the population, if that's what you're getting at.

If you're then going to go down the route of population control, it gets tricky.

I'm not terribly anti imported stuff though, I must admit.

bigbadbarry · 25/11/2011 13:16

Who is David?

ViviPru · 25/11/2011 13:17

err... Attenborough? Confused

knittedbreast · 25/11/2011 13:18

the one and only! i knew who you meant, but not what you mean?

squeakytoy · 25/11/2011 13:18

Dickenson?

StanHouseMuir · 25/11/2011 13:20

Frankly, it won't make a blind bit of difference, not when the earth's population is increasing by 200m every year.

Whatmeworry · 25/11/2011 13:27

The problem is not food, it's not really even the number of mouths needing feeding, the problem is the energy needed to warm, transport and make goodies for them.

Btw the planet will be just fine - humanity on the other hand.....

Callisto · 25/11/2011 13:27

I agree that everyone should do something, and that buying seasonal and local makes a big difference. The world population is predicted to stabilise and then start to fall in around 40 years, but so many people just don't care or don't feel anything will make a difference that they just carry on regardless. Live like you're on a canoe, I say.

Portofino · 25/11/2011 13:28

Are you Mrs Attenborough?

Callisto · 25/11/2011 13:28

Whatme - have you read any James Lovelock? That is essentially what he says. The planet will re-stabilise at a higher temperature and be fine. We're doomed though.

Andrewofgg · 25/11/2011 13:29

Buying local sounds good.

But what is local? The same continent, country, county, parish?

In Britain we cannot feed ourselves and must import most of our food. End of.

LancsLassie · 25/11/2011 13:29

Look you guys David Attenborough is Richard Attenborough's brother. One is a director 'Jurasic Park' the other one has always worked with animals. He has done documentary after documentary. That's who David Attenborough is.

He is on line now at this moment. If you have a laptop or computer at hand then you can watch what he is saying in his programme. Then you decide what you want to do. I have been aware of this for some time.

I know exactly where I am going with this. I will continue to use my laptop. Radio. But I' not buying any more CD's or DVD's

It is going to take drastic measures before the World improves.

The Earth is Sick. Its going to need a lot of care and bringing back to health.

You're quite the evangelist, aren't you OP? Grin

LancsLassie · 25/11/2011 13:34

Please you guys don't listen to me. You watch that programme whilst it is still on air. Yesterdays Horizon at 8.00pm. For your own sakes and most of all for your own kids.

Its on BBC iPlayer Channel 4

I think everyone knows who David Attenborough is.

Whatmeworry · 25/11/2011 13:51

OP why are you not engaging in discussion rather than pimping a program. You are looking like a PR ploy.

ViviPru · 25/11/2011 13:54

Did the last thread get deleted?

No idea who he is - but its not hard to work it out.

I have read Jared Diamond's "Collapse" about how human societies tend to over consume their resources and then collapse, time and again.
