Ds, age 4 goes to very fancy academic school.I find the parents just so awful.I am not sure where the blame lies, with "them" or me. The range rovers, the hunter wellies and blow dried hair, the birthday parties more suited to a sheik than a 4 year old. I just dont know....They are all bankers, or bankers wives , and the whole Indian/ Philipino nanny thing??? AAAAHG!....So does anyone else feel like an alien at the school gate? To me they are like a gang of mean girls.I have tried so hard to invite children to play dates, to get to know some of the parents but really to little effect.I feel this will impact on DS.I am younger than any other mum in his year by at least 10 years and feel this has an impact on how they treat me. Has nay ne else been in this situation? I live in London and the hysteria around schooling has driven me crazy.

I am about 10-15 years younger than most of the Mum's at DC school, but we all laugh and joke about it, but then it's not a 'fancy academic school' just the local CofE Primary! I don't feel that my age impacts negatively on how they see me, as I can hold a perfectly intelligent conversaton with them, and we all view eachother as mums.

(Not sure if that makes sense, but can't seem to word it any better sorry!)

I am plucking at straws. There is a real alpha mum contingency and it just makes me so uncomfortable.I have loads of friends older/ younger than I am, so I know I can communicate with all ages.It feels like we are from different planets and I am probably taking him out of the school( after 2 years.)

Have you tried joining the PTA? I have, and now I am one of the 'alpha mums'. I know what you mean though, when I was a new Mum at the school, it did seem dominated by some Mums. Like I said, now I am one of those Mums!
