To demand delivery charge back

Booked a delivery between 10-11am today.
At 11.05 I got a call from the delivery chap, very apologetic, to say that he had been given two sets of deliveries to do, and was currently in another town, it would be after lunch when he arrived.
Shopping finally arrived at 2.15pm.
Delivery guy was very apologetic (not his fault at all - Sainsbury's didn't have enough delivery drivers) and I got a £10 voucher.

I called Sainsbury's to complain - after the cost of delivery (5.50) they have compensated me £4.50 for having to sit in the the house for 4 hours waiting for my shopping - do you think I can demand the delivery charge back too? Angry

They should give you the delivery charge back, they were v late delivering your food and it's not on. What if you were going out in the afternoon?

WheresTheCat · 19/11/2011 19:34

We were going out at half eleven for lunch, so we didn't get to do that Sad DH took the kids to the park while I waited.
The lady at Customer Services said that 'It clearly states £10 for late delivery in the terms and conditions' Now I would be happy with that if it was 20 mins late - but three hours late?

When this happened to me I asked for the delivery charge back. When they pointed out the e- voucher I stated "but that assumes I will shop with you again, I will not accept something I may not use for a late delivery"

Like you they did not have enough vans yet did not call to see if I would be willing to reschedule.

WheresTheCat · 19/11/2011 19:40

Honeydragon that's exactly my point as well - did you get your money back?

Yes, they refunded it straight away Smile

WheresTheCat · 19/11/2011 19:46

I have just quoted you word for word in my email reply to them - will let you know what happens!

Hope they do the decent thing. After all they knew they were understaffed and still went ahead rather than giving the option to collect or cancel. Surely as you agreed to wait in and accept the order you have saved them a lot more money than if you refused to reschedule and asked for a full refund, which you were entitled to do. I really think they should swallow the delivery themselves on this one as a matter of course.

NBU at all to ask for delivery charge back, really they ought to have let you know earlier since they were clearly in a position to.

honeydragon I like your response Smile
