....or is this ebay seller

I went onto ebay yesterday searching for a specific toy for my niece which I haven't been able to find anywhere. I finally found it on an ebay store site and ordered it as a 'buy it now' purchase.

While I was going through the paypal process, I saw that the address listed was my previous address, but it was just as I clicked 'confirm'. I immediately emailed the seller and said what I had done. I gave my new address and asked if it could be posted here instead. I apologised for my error.

I have just had an email saying that they are very sorry but they can only send to the address confirmed by the customer, so they will not amend the address details. Does this seem unreasonable to you? I don't know whether they will refund me or will just send in to my previous address anyway. I have emailed back saying that I am the customer and asking if they intend to refund me or will just send the item out.

I'm not very happy about it, but don't know if they're being unreasonable or if it's just policy for ebay stores?

It is always fishy when people start asking you to send to unverified addresses, so they prob are worried. Sure there is a way around this though..... change your details on Paypal asap, and stay in contact with the seller.

Thay have to send it to the confirmed address in paypal - if they don't they open themselves up to chargebacks from customers and paypal will always find in the customers favour if they have not sent it to paypal's confirmed address

It has to be done that way, if they send it to a different address they are not protected by PayPal. Sorry but the fault is yours. Ask them to refund your payment and pay again making sure you use the correct address.

Thanks deliakate, I changed the details immediately on paypal and made sure that all the addresses were correct on ebay. I wonder if there's a way for the seller to see my address through my ebay account? Or do you think they would just refund me so I could buy it again using the correct address?

I'm sorry, but that is what eBay advises sellers to do. They strongly recommend that you never send items to anything other than the listed address.

Can you correct your address now, if it's still not showing up as correct on the buyers side, cancel the transaction and immediately Buy It Now again?

I am aware that this is a complete faff.

Contact him, say that you've updated all the details and take it from there.

FabbyChic · 18/11/2011 15:42

The seller cannot see your address, they only see it on the PayPal confirmation of payment so they see the wrong address, the ONLY way around this is to be refunded and pay again.

TeWihara · 18/11/2011 15:44

Actually, they can if they send you an invoice. Noticed this the other day.

TeWihara · 18/11/2011 15:45

But if you've already paid I'm not sure whether it would update or not.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/11/2011 15:47

Yep, they need to refund and then you can pay again with the correct address.

FabbyChic · 18/11/2011 15:48

For gods sake. the only way around this is to be refunded and pay again. There is no other way as you have already paid the email and details the seller will have will have your wrong details on. The only way to get the correct details to adhere to PayPals Seller Protection policy is to have the right address on the PayPal transaction page. Only paying using the correct address will give the seller that.
