To be shocked by this in pizza express?

Went to pizza express last night and was shocked to see on the men's toilet door a notice saying that children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Now I know this is to stop them being sued if anything happened. But really this seems a massive over reaction.

The restaurant is in a small nice provincial town - not a rough area. And there are no urinals, only cubicles.

maybe it's to stop kids being pains - but yabu in your view that bad things only happen in rough areas :)

purplepidjin · 16/11/2011 09:09

Maybe there are some unreliably trained 8yo's near you who make a mess that the staff don't like clearing up?

Maybe when there are more than 2 8yo boys together away from adults they have water fights and mess around because they're children and need adult guidance on how to behave?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 16/11/2011 09:10

Blimey, are children only abused in rough areas then ?

Sadly I can only assume something has happened in the past to make them feel the need to put that sign up.

gordyslovesheep · 16/11/2011 09:11

yeh some little sod probably smeared hand soap all over the mirrors!

lesley33 · 16/11/2011 09:12

tbh I hadn't thought about badly behaved kids, because it was ONLY on the men's toilet door. Surely girls can be just as badly behaved? I read it as more about fear of paedophilia.

And of course children are abused everywhere. But if I saw this in Kings Cross then I would understand it. But not somewhere that is just ordinary.

I've worked in bars and restaurants whilst a student, i wish the place i worked had the guts to do this - would hvae stopped the little blighters from turning the taps on and leaving them, unrolling the toilet rolls - argh!

Maybe they just accidentally lock themselves in cubicles & get distressed or something equally innocent.

dearprudence · 16/11/2011 09:14

I didn't.

gordyslovesheep · 16/11/2011 09:14

hahahaha Mofo it's a good job I live in a rough area with my 3 - little gits they are!

maybe the sign had fallen off the ladies?

Groovee · 16/11/2011 09:14

IME boys tend to go to the loo in packs and get up to mischief. Was definitely the case when we took 17 boys out for dinner once.

dearprudence · 16/11/2011 09:15

I didn't read it as being about fear of paedophilia, I mean.

gordyslovesheep · 16/11/2011 09:16

I think it's possibly more to do with NO URINALS and under 8 BOYS peeing all over the seats

BoffinMum · 16/11/2011 09:19

What about in the women's toilets - do children have to be accompanied there as well?

eaglewings · 16/11/2011 09:20

Dd got stuck in the cubicle when out for a meal with friends. She still remembers it :(

shagmundfreud · 16/11/2011 09:28

I was in PE on Saturday night and was more shocked by the size of the children's pizzas. They've shrunk! Sad
