Need a quick answer! We're taking DD and 5 friends to cinema this pm. I have a bag full of sweeties and popcorn to take with us. DP thinks I'm being tight and has got me worried that we'll get stopped going in. So should I leave the sweeties nad pay £££££ at cinema for pick and mix??

YANBU. Take as much in as you can.

I remember in my yoof being searched for booze going into the Newcastle Odeon all-night-Arnie-action showing and still managing to get in with four cans of Stells up my sleeves and half a bottle of vodka down my pants.

Happy days.

Eh? What cinemas search you? That is so not on. It's not a restaurant, it's a cinema, they have no right to force you to buy their overpriced food.

Although even I thought DF was going abit too far when she took her dinner in with her in a foil-wrapped plate....

pictish · 12/11/2011 19:51

Yanbu!
We always take our own snacks...cinema food prices are just laughable.

workshy · 12/11/2011 19:51

they don't force you to buy it -it's not a condition of entry!

but they are perfectly within their rights to insist that you cannot bring your own food and drink in

RecursiveMoon · 12/11/2011 19:52

Bloody hell, I didn't even know that being searched before going into the cinema was a possibility! How rude.

susiedaisy · 12/11/2011 21:03

If they were seeing a film around lunchtime my grandparents used to take a flask of tea and sandwiches and cakeGrinGrin

YADNU. For DS1's birthday I made each of his friends a party bag of sweets and a fruit shoot Shock , never occured to me that it might not be allowed.

Groovee · 12/11/2011 21:20

I usually make little bags to take with us if we've got loads coming with us and buy juice there

Bogeyface · 12/11/2011 21:24

They usually have signs saying "The management reserve the right to refuse entry" which means that they dont have to give a reason. Its the same thing that landlords use to say that they dont want a particular person in their pub. They dont have to say why, they just say no.

So sadly I think that while searching people for anything other than drugs (and possibly alcohol if they are unlicensed) puts them on dodgy ground, saying that you leave your own stuff outside or you are not allowed in, is probably perfectly legal. Tight, but legal. Wanky, but legal. A PITA, but legal.

Do what I do, get a DVD! You can eat drink fart and snog to your hearts content, and you can pause it to go for a wee :o

I'm not proud of it but when I was younger, I was once persuaded by a friend of mine to shove a multi pack of crisps that we had bought up my top and pretend i was pregnant.
It was stupid and god knows how i got away with it, i rustled all the way in and came out flat stomached.

ginmakesitallok · 12/11/2011 22:07

Drinking, farting and snogging would not have impressed my DD or her 5 friends.....

I suppose it would depend on who you were snogging Gin :o
