To say 'bless you' on a bus?

I was sat next to a woman on the bus yesterday. She sneezed and then straight away sneezed again.

I then said quietly to her (so she could hear) 'bless you' and smiled

She sent me a dirty look and angled away from me so her feet where in the corridor bit.

Did I commit a massive social faux paux?

She probably wasn't pulling a face, just recovering from a double sneeze. She probably angled herself away from you so as not to risk spraying you when she blew her nose or in case she sneezed again.

People don't get upset about social nicety nonsense.

That dirty look might be her normal face.

I always bless people when they sneeze and I have to say I have never had anything other than a smile or a thank you.

She was just a crabbit old cow if she took it badly! Grin

I always say bless you, just because she was rude doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 11/11/2011 11:29

I always say bless you, and smile, chuckle and say thank you if anyone blesses me.

Perhaps she is from somewhere else where they don't do 'bless you' and she thought you were some sort of religious nut who goes around giving random people your blessing.

YusMilady · 11/11/2011 11:29

She may not have heard it before and thought you were a loony. Never mind OP - you were in the right and if you had blessed ME I would have smiled and thanked you.
