Because I sneezed and my lovely shiny new iPhone flew out of my hands and now has a cracked screen? I only got it on Wednesday :(

Yanbu. Gah! How very annoying. Have you got damage insurance for it? If it's any help you do see lots of people using them with cracked screens.

Stupify64 · 04/11/2011 04:39

I'd feel the same way. Mine's a hand- me- down from ex DH but I think it's more worthy of love than he ever was. Can you claim on household insurance?

LoveBeingAFirework · 04/11/2011 04:45

Halloween is over so no more horror stories Wink

Mine has been dropped a few times and works fine, except I can no longer put it on silent, it just doesn't work (shrugs) I still love it.

Yanbu I would cry too If it were only a few days old. Agree re ins careful though some of them you have to report within a certain number of hours.

aurynne · 04/11/2011 04:46

I second the contents insurance if you have it. What an awful luck! I would be very annoyed with myself too, I hope you can get another one!

ShipsCat · 04/11/2011 04:52

I did exactly the same thing with mine. If there's an Appke shop near you, they can replace the screen for about £80.

Tee2072 · 04/11/2011 06:18

If you just got it, they will probably replace the screen for free, under warranty. Even if you did it yourself. Go to Apple store and ask.

carabos · 04/11/2011 06:19

I hate my iPhone and would love something bad to happen to it so I could get a new blackberry instead.

LoveBeingAFirework · 04/11/2011 06:22

Caraboos take that back!

mumatron · 04/11/2011 06:30

Caraboose I'd gladly swap this crapberry for your iphone

ObviouslyOblivious · 04/11/2011 06:40

Take it to the Apple genius bar - they might replace it for free

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2011 06:48

They replaced mine for free within the year. Make appointments on line for your nearest genius bar.

I now carry mine with bumpers and in a case so it doesn't happen again

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 04/11/2011 09:48

Is it insured?

I broke DH's last week, it wasn't insured and the shop he bought it from (Vodafone?) said it would cost £100's to fix but we found a shop that fixed it for only £90. They said both layers of the screen were cracked, it would have been cheaper for only one layer. And the internal bits were undamaged thankfully. So they fixed it for much less than Vodafone were expecting to charge us.

It's worth shopping around. DH said he thought he could have bought both screens on ebay for £70 but it was worth the extra £20 to have the shop do it, they were quicker and gave him a guarantee for their work.

Towndon · 04/11/2011 10:32

YABU. It's just a phone and I'm jealous because I can't afford one

fraktious · 04/11/2011 10:34

DH says it's insured and if I'm that upset he'll buy me a new one this afternoon. I don't think I'm quite that distraught and besides, 6 hours later it seems very '1st world problem'.

It's just the one screen which is broken and it is insured and fixable (and still works!) but I was just feeling very upset earlier. Not helped by stinking cold and starfish cosleeping DS doing his best to boot me out of bed....

Thank you all for sharing my pain and reassuring me it's okay to cry!

Okay, not quite all Wink

you can buy a kit off amazon for about £15 to fix the screen yourself. Quote fiddly but worh it

Spooklegeek · 04/11/2011 11:07

Take it into Apple & be very very nice! My sister bought an iPad a couple of weeks ago & after about 10 days my 2 year-old nephew dropped it (I know, I know). The first assistant in the Apple store said it'd be X amount to repair it, she went outside to phone her husband to discuss, went back in to say ok and another assistant went & spoke to the manager & they gave her a new one! :) Fab customer service.

ColdSancerre · 04/11/2011 11:08

Yes, apple are lovely and helpful about such things. They replaced my iphone3 when I cracked the screen.
