I have both but I am erring towards the cats.... They just bugger off. Of the cat flap every day and need vey little input from me bar feeding them. The dog, however, requires walking, bathing, walking, another bath....

My dog is stupid and eats his own tail. He loves me completely.

My cat is intelligent, beautiful and treats me with distain. I think he hates me.

Dogs just love anyone who strokes them. Cats only allow you to think they might possibly be coming around to tolerating your existence once you've fed them a few times and proved you could be a valuable contribution to their lifestyle.

Therefore, cats are better because you have to work hard to earn their love, which makes it more meaningful.

(That's what I tell myself whenever a cat looks at me like something it trod in.)

Cats do not need walking, so are restful pets. Mine sometimes insists I stay on the sofa with a book so that he has something over which to drape himself.

Dogs smell like wet carpet, have stinky breath and eat their own poo/sick. I've never walked into a dog owners' house without knowing they have a dog, because of the smell. And they fart. I've never seen a cat fart. But I don't particularly like either - all too much hassle IMO

Plus the thicko dog owners happily let their dogs terrorize cats at the vets waiting room. They always say "Don't worry, he/she LOVES cats!"
