www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Glass-Fish-Tank-Aquarium-Approx-120l-/170719767706?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item27bfb0ec9a#ht_500wt_1363

Am I wrong in thinking that pets can't be sold on ebay?

And AIBU to report this item?

Fish can be sold on eBay.

FabbyChic · 02/11/2011 18:37

It's the aquarium that's for sale, not the fishies.

Or am I wrong?

dexter73 · 02/11/2011 18:39

It's the fish too.

FabbyChic · 02/11/2011 18:40

The fishes come with it, but it is allowed.

You cannot sell dogs, cats etc.,

MotherPanda · 02/11/2011 18:42

OK, I didn't know fish were an exception (poor fishies).

Thanks for the info, won't click the report button after all.

I think you would be actually. They're not selling fish as such, although I know that strictly its against the rules. But if you're giving up fish then it can take ages waiting for the fish to die naturally. Its better he sells the fish with the tank rather than flush them down the loo.

Its hardly puppy farming.

MotherPanda · 02/11/2011 18:48

I know, It just struck me as wrong because I thought all pets wern't allowed to be sold on ebay - also, too many goldfishies in one tank... but there we are.

Am happy to have been proved Unreasonable.

There are certainly not too many fish in that tank, its a decent size and can hold around 20 fish.

I do wish people wouldn't assume when they have no idea at all.

MotherPanda · 02/11/2011 18:58

But Goldfish get BIIIIIGGGG! Lots of pet shops won't sell goldfish to be kept in tanks anymore, only for ponds (I was educated on the fishy ways last year, when I went to buy a goldfish, came out with Rosy Barbs instead.

It certainly wouldn't fit 20 goldfish!

A tank of that size could support two fancy goldfish, maybe three at a push if you were diligent about weekly 50% water changes and had a really snazzy filter, or just one single-tailed goldfish.

The latter belong in ponds only, the former grow a great deal bigger than people think and are incredibly messy. 20 guppies or danios or something, sure.
