She's 7 and hysterical a bit dramatic in her refusal to have any salt water for the MASSIVE ulcer on her tongue. It really is a baddy and she won't eat or talk properly because her teeth keep catchng it.

She won't have bonjela or salt water and its doing my head in because I KNOW it would relieve the ulcer.

I cant force her can I?....AIBU to put some alty water in a shooty mediicine thing and catch her unawares? Or even shove a blob of Bonjela on it when shes not expecting it?

Se didn't eat anything at all yesterday but is drinking a lot...

...salt water to heal an ulcer? Just leave it and it will heal itself over a few days. You don't need to "treat" mouth ulcers.

I use Rinstead pastilles for mine, work a treat! Or suck on an ice-cube/lolly.

lubeybooby · 01/11/2011 13:26

Just leave it, bonjela and salt do feck all

AugustMoon · 01/11/2011 13:26

TCP pastilles?

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 01/11/2011 13:27

It will get better on its own, so not worth making a fuss about. Just tell her if she's not using the salt water then you don't want to hear any whinging about the ulcer.

ouryve · 01/11/2011 13:27

Just leave it alone. Salt water doesn't heal them well enough for it to be worth breaching her trust.

DorisIsTheDarkDestroyer · 01/11/2011 13:27

Salt water is absolutely the best thing for ulcers (wouldn't have believed it until I'd tried it). However it will eventually heal of it's own accord so I wouldn't insist, just don't accept any moaning on how much it hurts.

I think this would be a really bad idea, - if you unexpetedly shoot salty water (or stick your finger into her mouth with a blob of bongela on it) into her mouth, she will cough and choke and spit it out, then probably take some time to forgive/trust you again. It won't do anything to the ulcer (it won't have enough contact with it) and will make her very angry and upset. Imagine how you would feel if someone did it to you?

I think the advice about not listening to any wingeing if she won't have it treated is the best one.

DD is still like this at 11 so you have my sympathies.
I am a tough mother though either use the treatment or don't moan.
