Have avoided her for ages (the smug I am so poor Sunday times columns are a distant memory) but just heard her going on about trick or treating in her lovely islington community (am sure islington is very nice - its her that I object to).

Why does she get column inches/ air time? I know you could say that about lots of columnists but none make me Feel so irritated? Aibu ?

No idea who she is - but can she seriously be worse than Liz Jones?

Gigondas · 31/10/2011 19:14

Fair point- but Liz jones is more to be pitied so doesn't rankle in quite the Same way

columnists are almost always relatives of someone influential - simple as that - it's easy money if you have the right connections

Gigondas · 31/10/2011 19:40

Must be that essential - cant think of another reason

The rosie one about being a pushy parent and proud was pretty bad...

microserf · 31/10/2011 20:37

isn't she the one that stupidly spent far too much money on credit, shopped quite a few stories about it and then had to hawk increasingly private stories about her family to make ends meet.

because if that's her, i agree, she's a right smug pain in the arse.

poor old liz jones - she is kind of pitiable, so i don't feel quite the same way about her.

Gigondas · 31/10/2011 21:02

That's the one... Including story about putting breast milk in John humphreys tea when she was on radio breakfast show.

Liz jones just needs help I think- she is actually very sad and has one redeeming quality in some of what she says about use of undersized models.

Definitely into itchy teeth territory with her - gah. Those columns she used to do about being a landlord and then about how much debt she'd got herself into were awful - what a numpty. And she is smuggy mcsmug about parenting. Didn't hear her smugging about trick or treating in Islington (thankfully) but hope her car gets egged Grin. Or did she sell it to pay off her debts?

SierraMadre · 31/10/2011 21:15

Agreed. She suggested that new university students should take a few antiques from home so they were in familiar surroundings even in halls [hhmm]

ScarahStratton · 31/10/2011 21:21

I can't bring myself to pity Liz Jones. It would be admitting to having feelings other than dislike for her.

And that is a slippery slope too far.

Mandy2003 · 31/10/2011 21:32

I am absolutely certain I once worked with Rosie Millard's sister (although I never asked!) and she made my teeth itch too!

Gigondas · 31/10/2011 21:43

Didn't know about the uni article but yes the whole I m so poor with my six rented houses and mountain of debt did tip her over the edge.

God, is she still hanging around like a bad smell?

microserf · 31/10/2011 21:52

really, part of the MN Bloggers Network? No enough stories about the kids/Mr Millard/stonking pile of debt run up on ski trips and boden to sell to the DM or the Sunday Times?

i know i'm being a bitch but her articles really annoy me. since the times went behind a paywall, they annoy me a lot less though Grin since i can't read them anymore.

AuraofDora · 31/10/2011 21:53

she is worse than useless, with little to say frankly and lots of column inches to pontificate
I avoid the printed news and columnists these days so dont know Liz Jones, thankfully by the sounds of it..

Gigondas · 31/10/2011 21:57

On the bloggers network here Hmm

I was in a restaurant once (Islington, natch) when she was there with hubbie and DCs - braying - looking around to see if people had noticed her, all that malarkey.

Barry - is that her blog? She's never 35. Sorry, that sounds bitchy. But she's just not.

LemonDifficult · 31/10/2011 22:15

YADDDDDDNBU.

Ick, Rosie Millard makes my skin crawl. I feel pretty weird saying that about someone I don't know, but hey, she's gone to a great deal of effort to 'reveal' herself and her family to me and millions of others in exchange for cash. I while I feel weird, I don't feel bad.

I never read her anymore, she is just UNBEARABLE. She needs to be dumped on an island with that other awful one who wrote that evil book about her son's weed habit.

LemonDifficult · 31/10/2011 22:15

35?! Er, non.

yes, I looked again and it is. She talks about asking Grayson Perry (as you do) whether 35 is too old to become an artist. Hypothetically speaking.

Happymu · 13/12/2022 17:51

Which sister was that?
