Not taking my children trick or treating?

my DCs are 3.5 and 5.5 years. I feel it's probably a bit young to take them trick or treating. I am aware DD's friends are going. (year1 children). Just worried she will feel left out. I am hoping to keep quiet and hope no one knocks on our door. Probably close the curtains and hide behind the sofa!

It's your call, obviously. We are big trick or treat 'hosts' ie. we dress the outside of the house up in spooky stuff and pumpkins for the evening and stand by with large quantities of sweets. The smaller children turn up early evening usually with mums and dads hovering by the gate and loads of mates in tow. The older ones turn up later by themselves.

If you don't want any visitors, turn out the lights and shut the curtains. Have fun behind the sofa!

When my son was that age I went and about ten friends close by [within walking distance] gave them a bag of sweets and said can we pop around between 6-630 and trick or treat you.

Then son got dressed up and off we went........half an hour of fun....simple.
