To be absolutely dreading mischief night tonight

I dont know if its just here up north that this goes on or all over the place, those "lovely local youths" take it upon themselves every year to go around causing trouble the night before Halloween. It started many years ago with simple eggs being thrown, over the years the eggs have become bricks!

Last year we had the back window of the car broken as did quite a few people in our street, 1 of the bay windows smashed, and my partner threatened with a knife when he confronted them. an elderly lady who lives alone also had her car windows smashed, along with her house windows at a cost to her to get fixed.

This year we've been renovating our house so not actually staying there at the moment and im just dreading not being there to look out for anything, not that it would help, last year we had the lights on and i was sat on the couch when half a brick came through into the living room.

The police are very much aware of what goes on but because its all over the city there obviously over stretched as it is. I feel absolute hatred for the children who cause this damage, i just dont understand how people can let their children out tonight of all nights knowing what they are most likely getting up to.

Wow, I already hate this weekend but nothing that bad happens here.
Feel for you

Blimey, sounds awful. We have "gangs" of 3 to 10 year olds roaming around with their parents knocking on doors in a highly excited state, dressed up to the nines and politely taking a few sweets from the bucket.

We're in a little village in the Home Counties which probably explains it.

That sounds horrible and I don't blame you for being worried. What do the police/community plan to do to control it?

Nothing like that happens here.

salempickles · 30/10/2011 08:18

The police just do the same every year, stay on the main roads and seperate gangs, it got so bad 1 year there was a helicopter out at the top of our road.

It's only good it you live in a busy area, if you live down a quiet road like me then this is where they seem to go to target anything they can.

Its nice to hear though that this "tradition" hasnt spread though, maybe the parent up here need to take more responsibility for their little angels.

Mischief night is Nov 4th here. the police have cracked down on it a lot though so there is not as much damage done as there used to be.
