Is this wikipedia page real, or has it been trolled or something? Seriously I had no idea there were so many cases. Confused And why so many in China?

An obscure book my sister used to like as a child. All I could remember was that there were four sisters and they accidentally sponsored an african boy - that was the first result Confused

Could not be arsed to read the WHOLE thing but have to agree - What is going on in China?? Why are so many penises being lopped off in China?

I dont know about trolled.. it certainly seems a popular method of DV in china though.... Confused ... I suppose it is a way for a woman to keep to the one child policy.... and more effective than a vasectomy.

I saw a documentary about the American boys years ago not only did the dr's botch the op but abused them and ruined both their lives.

Extreme but effective I suppose Grin

Saw a bit about the 1 child policy on the ITN news last night and the amount of abortions of girls is sky high compared to boys. Interviewed some poor woman who was praying her unborn child was a born so she didn't have to face another abortion, and it was. Finding out the sex seemed to be illegal but there was a booming black market.

Yes borders I remember learning some things about botched circumcision when we were doing about sex and gender at school. That case sounds horrible though. The others were apparently well meaning - they thought in those days that gender was a socially assigned thing and that it would be no problem to just reassign the boys to be girls.

I saw that. :( It is sad, but I can also see the reasoning behind it, considering the poverty and inability of the government to be able to sustain the increase in the population at the rate it was going.

I read a bit more about it, and there are a lot of exceptions and it isnt exactly as cut and dried as the report made it sound.

I can see that it seems against human rights to not be able to decide how big your family should be, but if the country is unable to provide decent medical care and education because of over-population, then I suppose something had to be done to try and halt it. :(
