My sil had the kids today while I was at a funeral. I have come home to find her and the kids have decorated my window with Halloween stuff. My front window has got cobwebs, ghost and spiders and a banner saying caution beware.

The kids had a good time doing it but I really want to take them down.

I would not mind but it's not even Halloween yet. It's fine for a day but not a week.

I will be the mean mummy if I take them. MN jury should I take these down or leave them. Help

Absolutely leave them up, the kids will think you don't like their work and won't understand

BrikSchittHaus · 26/10/2011 19:18

don't be mean, tis only a few days

hester · 26/10/2011 19:20

Is there any particular reason why it bothers you? Are you feeling upset anyway because of the bereavement?

belledechocchipcookie · 26/10/2011 19:21

Leave them up. It sounds like they have had a great time. I'm really sorry about your day, I hope you're OK.

MrsTwinks · 26/10/2011 19:21

leave em up, but maybe ask SIL why they did it. What goes into my mind is ghosts and goolies isn't what I would do the day mummy is out at a funeral iykwim. Leave em for the kids but talk to SIL, you don't want to come home in 3 weeks and find shes done christmas with them Wink

NearlyLeglessEuphemia · 26/10/2011 19:23

Aaw don't be mean! It's not even a week! YABU! Imagine their wee faces if you take it down. [hsad]

slavetofilofax · 26/10/2011 19:23

Leave them up, your dc will be upset if you don't, and it's their home too.

HidingInTheBathroom · 26/10/2011 19:25

I'm not upset. A little light hearted with it. It's the leaving them up all week thing. I'm the only one on our street to have decs up.

It just looks really messy.

Don't think my sil did it with a mean intention just didn't think.

Yes, leave them up even though you don't like them! Make a mental note to hide them from SIL this time next year! :o

hester · 26/10/2011 20:20

Oh well, in that case, you MUST leave them up! Grin

A couple of years back, my dp allowed my dd to put up the Christmas tree IN OCTOBER. She was so thrilled I didn't have the heart to tell her it had to come down. (Had a few well-chosen words to dp, though, and now we follow a strict rule on timings.)

ujjayi · 26/10/2011 20:29

YABU.

She did you a favour caring for and entertaining your DCs whilst you had to be elsewhere. I am sorry that you have had such a tough day but if I were your SIL I would be rather hurt that you pulled me up on this.

Many children love the scary thrill of halloween and they clearly had a lovely time decorating with her. My DCs and I decorated their playroom yesterday (including the window). We are the only ones in the street to have done so as yet. IMO it seems silly to do it for one day only. Why not let them have a reasonable (less than a week) build up to it?

hwjm1945 · 26/10/2011 20:41

Don't blame you really, mine do all sorts of stuff in the house and in many ways I cna't stand it, and want a serence calm and tidy house, we too have halloween decs up - I jsut grin and bear it and try to get int othe spririt of it, I would be pissed off however, to find someone else had taken it upon herself to dec my house with the kids, prob cos I would feel I had missed out on it a bit,

Whatdoyouthinkthen · 26/10/2011 20:42

hester DC put up the tree every year, it looks shocking but they think otherwise!

Whatdoyouthinkthen · 26/10/2011 20:44

...and the kitchen is permanently full of homemade rubbish artwork!

MigratingCoconuts · 26/10/2011 20:45

why care that it looks messy and your's is the only one decorated???

HidingInTheBathroom · 26/10/2011 21:17

Probably because I do like to do it up but only do it for the one day for Halloween. Oh well at least it saves me doing it.Smile
