To be frustrated at school's poor communication?

Dd goes to lovely school where she is well taught and looked after. However, they give very little notice of things that dd needs to bring in and then quite often incomplete information about what's needed. And often the info is given out verbally - dd is in year one. How much notice do you think is fair to give for items that might need to be bought or collected?

At least a week's notice, depending what it is. Our school would give probably 2 weeks for something like a costume. Lifechanger is right. Ofsted will be interested in this

Our school sends letters, has a website, notices on the classroom door, and a text alert service. Some parents still complain mind you

YANBU. We have record books that the teacher signs daily and we counter-sign. Notes generally come home through this. We also get a weekly update e-mail (used to be a paper newsletter but obviously those can get lost!). "Special events" tend to be flagged up at the beginning of term, with a specific note about what might be needed following a good week before. Can't fault it really.

Like others have said the best way for change is from within. Get on the PTA or contact a governor with some specific suggestions about how things can improve. I always find positive suggestions about what can makes things better go down better than complaints!
