to think hair extensions are unrelentingly shit?

I mean, does anyone look natural, or nice, with them? Even uber rich famous women who spend £££££££££££ still look shit. Women you see on the high street - they still spent £££ and look ridonkulous. Who do they think they are fooling?

I must agree. They are vile. I stood a foot away from VB once at an event and her extensions were like rats tails. And if VB can't afford good extensions, they don't exist.

manicbmc · 17/10/2011 19:41

One of dd's ex friends sports the most awful extensions. And it looks like she's going bald a bit too - she's 16!

If people want long hair why don't they just grow it? Hmm

squeakytoy · 17/10/2011 19:44

I used to use the clip on ones, (real hair), and they looked fine, because they were close to the scalp, and the same colour as my own hair (I dyed my own hair and the extensions at the same time), but YANBU, glued extensions that have been in more than a couple of weeks look shite, on anyone, as the hair growth makes them limp and you cant brush your hair as vigorously..

horMOANSnomore · 17/10/2011 19:44

Not everyone can grow hair long - mine used to stop just past my shoulders Sad - but I agree, extensions look awful. But then I hate anything false-looking.

pookamoo · 17/10/2011 19:47

You have to question the ethics, too

EricNorthmansMistress · 17/10/2011 19:50

You know who has the worst extensions on tv at the moment? Gabriella from Made in Chelsea. Godawful.

Interesting about the ethics issue as well. Of course, when there is money to be made from human bodies, poor people will be exploited :(

Well if they're done really well, then you wouldn't notice someone had them in, would you? So you'd only notice the shit ones and there are a lot of them about.

Hair extensions take an awful lot of looking after, both in terms of salon visits and daily styling/care to keep them looking good. Most people don't really look after them well enough.

purpleknittingmum · 17/10/2011 20:18

Oh yes they mostly look awful today! I saw a colleague today that from behind I didn't recognise, then she turned and walked past and only when I saw her face did I realise who it was as I had forgotten that she had some mega long extensions in! It looked so messy, unbrushed.

Another colleague has those clip on things in and literally alternates from one day to the next short/long!

Icelollycraving · 17/10/2011 21:25

Yababitu. Hair extensions like most things need to be very good quality to look good. I had mine done at a specialist salon, they looked amazing. They looked exactly how my hair looked when it was long only thicker. They used a few different shades to get a better tone. I had them done for my wedding & had them maintained twice, then I got pregnant & I decided to remove them. If I was working (still on mat leave) I'd have them again. I loved them!

Trills · 17/10/2011 21:35

I agree with Midori, because I think there is a massive sampling bias going on.

If they are good, then you won't know they are there, so of course the only ones you are aware of are bad.

EricNorthmansMistress · 17/10/2011 21:35

Well maybe I am being U - but I see so many nasty, ratty, fake looking extensions that I do wonder if nice ones exist. Even obviously expensive ones look a bit daft, even if they look styled and tidy (like the MiC girls, Cheryl Cole, WAGs etc)

I'm sure yours looked lovely though :)

YANBU, I really hate how most (bar the really good, expensive) extensions look, am I pretty sure they are really bad for your hair and scalp when worn on a regular basis.

I'm fortunate to have waist length blonde hair which is completely natural but the amount of times I have been asked on nights out if I had extensions is unreal! It's as if no one believes hair that long could be real!

Icelollycraving · 17/10/2011 21:40

They did,bloody fabulous! [hgrin]
