Every morning from train station to office i use six sets of traffic lights, obviously same on way back. AIBU to get annoyed at the people who have to check/repress the button incase i haven't done it right?!

Prob being very petty, but really want to ask some of them why they do it!

Aah - I believe there is a notion that the more times the button is pressed the more quickly the lights will change .
So I think that people are pressingbthe button to "hurry up " the lights ( tho I don't know if it will ) rather than because They think you've not done it correctly .

if they dont know if you have pressed it or not, they will look daft standing there for half an hour just to not annoy you by pressing it

This is one of those things that's just human nature. People like to do little things like that themselves, even if rationally, they know it will make no difference whatsoever.

I waited next to three people at traffic lights the other day and waited ages for the lights to change. They didn't until a bloke rocked up and pressed the button. YABU, as apparently not everybody who is first to the lights actually bothers to press the button!

Ta, sort of knew i was being slightly nutty about it.
(Woe if it's been pressed the box lights up).

on my 40 min drive to work i encounter 18 sets of traffic lights, so think yourself lucky you only have to put up with six!

I am sure I am not the only person who has a kid who gleefully presses the button AFTER he has crossed the road.
Now that is annoying for drivers.....

Ah yes a phenomenon also exhibited whilst waiting for a lift...

My OH does this and it totally irrationally winds me up! The constant click-click-click-click as he rapidly presses it....you'd think by the age of 30 he'd figured it out but clearly not.

Or like me, they have waited twenty years to be crossing a road without a child who will immedicately go into total meltdown if they can't press the button, and are determined to finally have a turn of their own Even as a kid, way back when pelican crossings were new, my sister was always the one who got to press the button. Now it's my turn and I will press that button even if the entire town has already pressed it!

This is so annoying!!! You are standing there waiting to cross and someone strolls up and presses the button??? why??? why do they think I am stood there? I am with you totally on this one OP :)

I have stood there before for a few minutes though and then realised the other person standing there hadn't pressed the button. Also in strong sunlight or at certain types of crossing you can't tell whether the button has been pressed. So I might press the button to make sure, but not if there were dozens of people there obviously.

I am often bemused by the people who stand at the traffic lights and don't bother to press the button at all. Surly it helps to press the button? The cars won't stop otherwise. Idiots.

Agree that these days people increasingly don't push the button at all but just stand there as if their mere presence will cause the lights to change ....

however, OP, I get what you're saying. It's exactly equivalent to people on buses ringing the bell for the next stop although they can see/hear perfectly well that it's been rung several times already.

The repeated pushing is as annoying as not bothering to push it at all. I think the whole world is trying to piss me off sometimes
