to not buy online ever again

Arghh my tandem buggy was stolen from outside the shop, saved like mad for it...contacted police, nothing they could do :( ... Was looking on a FB page and a woman was selling one identical to the one i had stolen, messaged her all was fine...paid and she gave me the tracking number..now she has deactivated her fb account, sent the couriers on a wild goose chase . I'm a couple of hundred pound down and there are a few other people out of pocket! We have informed the police, only have her acc and sort cord number (which probably isn't hers) She will probably get away with it and now i can't afford a pram for my DC.

AIBU to never buy from these pages/people agai?

You wasnt to know. Just hope you get your money back and the theiving cow is caught.
What was she called???? Im on a parenting website where someone was selling stuff and never sent the items, she used various names but all were similar to her real name.

BTW shes left now after she was also found out to have being keeping the money collected by other mums which was donated to mums to be/brithdays etc etc

Sorry you've been so unlucky. That's awful. But there's a reason people buy only through the eBay system, or via an online retailer like Amazon. Because it's safe. FB doesn't protect you if something goes wrong. Still, sorry it happened.

Her name was Liby Jones, was on baby swap or shop..i think your right kick2down, stick to what you know...lesson learnt! :)

YANBU to not send money to random people on FB again. The world is full of con-artists tricking money out of people looking for a bargain. Use reputable shops either physically or online, or places like E-Bay which offer some buyer protection. And, even then, keep your wits about you. Sorry you've had this experience

If you paid into her bank account you can get your money back, if you used a debit/credit card i believe.

Visa debit card gives you the same protection as using a credit card I believe.

Sorry this has happened to you OP. I actually thought when I started reading your post that the "person" on FB was selling your buggy that she'd stolen and you got it back that way Sad

I wonder what would happen if you started a page "Don't buy on FB because..."

As above, if you paid by direct bank transfer, talk to your bank, if you've paid by Paypal, they'll refund. Talk to your credit cards if it's them.

The lady's name probably isn't Liby Jones, she's more than likely to have a number of aliases I would suspect and appear on a number of sites.

Don't let this put you off but just make sure you use a form of payment that has a guarantee attached in future (Paypal Paypal Paypal).

Oh my friends had loads of bargains over bookface, a jumperoo for a tenner eing one of them. No way would she trasfer money tho, handing over money at pick up is the way to go.

YANBU to be very careful who you buy from

But we run an internet shop (not buggies, specialised area) and we are always very careful over our customer service; it is the key to our success or failure. I would not but online except from established shops (either huge chains or where I could talk to the owner and ask for technical details if needed proving they know their field) or aplces such as ebay where it might not be perfect but you can usually get money back if needed (never faild to yet in 3 yeras of tradiing)

To echo what other posters have said please contact your bank- even debit cards are protected with things like this (though banks dont seem to make this information widely known)

If you set up a dispute they should be able recover your money.

As far as I know, only Visa debit offers the same protection as a purchase funded by credit card, but this only applies if the transaction is more than £100.

I was able to claim £50 for goods never received ,paid for on visa debit (with Barclays). Was such a faff though...

YABU because you don't seem to be particularly internet consumer savvy - and whether it's someone trying to sell you the Tower of London, or a buggy, there is always going to be someone out there attempting to profit from your lack of experience/knowledge.

Buy through reputed channels, and/or with methods that have extra protection in place (PayPal, credit card insurance, and so on).

YANBU to be pissed and weary of buying from an online source again though - everyone has bad experiences now and then, but you wouldn't aim to steer clear of all newsagents in the future because one of them short changed you on purpose, would you? Smile

If you ever buy again, pay using paypal goods and you are always protected... don't pay paypal gift though!!

Hey been really busy, sorry for late reply :) yeah it was bank transfer.. bank said to inform police and because the goods value +£500 combined they have to take it seriously. They have her address and once looked it up said she is well known to them. Do feel like an idiot buying from there, although sure there are some genuine sellers. Will be sticking with evay for the foreseeable funture Wink

Hope she gets what she deserves!

if anything like this again use pay pal to pay for it,dont give up due to 1 bad thing,if buying off FB pp or cash on pick up,hope you get money back and i know its a pain to have pram nicked i had my double 1 stolen from outside my front door when my twins were babies :(

I wouldn't buy from a stranger on Facebook (any more than I'd do a bank transfer to a stranger in the pub), but would happily continue to buy 'online', it's how I do most of my shopping these days!

Good luck getting it sorted out with the bank/police anyway.
