I asked for my jeweller to make me a piece of jewellery for dh `s birthday next week .

I had even drawn what i wanted . A chunky earing . 5 or 6 mm with a 1/4 carrot diamond in the centre . Smooth setting , like a rubover iykwim .

Jeweller phoned at 3 to tell me it was ready for pick up.

Got to his workshop before closing at 4 and his assistant handed me the box.

Had 3 little kids with me , and didnt check , got home and had a look.....

pictures on profile ...its not what i ordered ...

HAS ROUNDED OFF CORNERS AND HES PUT IT IN AN ILLUSION/STAR SETTING ....so it looks "girlie " .

AIBU if i take it back tomorrow and ask for the jeweller to re-do it to what i actually asked for ?

Of course not, take it back and tell them they have made a mistake.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 29/09/2011 17:15

And get him to remove the carrot while you're at it.

MadameCastafiore · 29/09/2011 17:17

He has saved you a fortune if you return it and maybe you can get him something nice instead.

Sorry have an aversion to men and earrings - wouldn't even marry one who had had ear peirced as a teenager.

YANBU though I can't believe you didn't do something as simple as check it in the shop...kids or not there's no excuse for that.

If you didn't get what you paid for then tell the jeweller

But as for it being 'girlie', the style you describe will be no more 'masculine' imo.

monkeyfacegrace · 29/09/2011 17:27

Mmm. Its a bit, umm, vile Grin
Sorry, Id take it back, and buy something else!

ElizabethDarcy · 29/09/2011 17:32

Mr Darcy would laugh if I got him an earring... not in this lifetime Grin

Re the mistake... yes take it back, he/she has not made what you ordered!

Why didn't you check it? It can't have been cheap; you just don't buy expensive jewellery without looking at it.

CupOfBrownJoy · 29/09/2011 17:37

oh Lord, sorry but its sounds absolutely awful, in both guises...

take it back and buy him some slippers...

droves · 29/09/2011 21:10
