to be in tears sorting through baby stuff

As youngest dd is now 6 I have finally started going though baby stuff in loft to take to charity shop.
I feel so sad knowing that I will never have another newborn baby to hold. Its crazy as dh and I decided we were not going to have any more children 4 years ago.
However, I still yearn to be a mum again but sadly it is unlikely as I am going through early stages of menopause.

Aww ...I really cant do 'fluffy' ... I lobbed all my stuff at the charity shop and was pregnant 2 weeks later. Never say never

Smile We have done that this year too.

I'd love another little person to join our family but I was so ill during both pregnancies and nearly lost DD because of it, so we wouldn't risk it.

I have shed many a tear over it (and still do when I'm sitting here alone).

Aw Tesco, love I'm feeling exactly the same. Youngest DS just started school and I'm looking at every toddler, baby or even pregnant bump, I know I'm not going to have any more and I know it's the right thing but it doesn't stop me missing the baby stuff.

I don't think yabu, but I do a bit, I have 3 children and the broodiness has ceased tbh thank the Lord. I would say, be thankful for what you have, babies grow into people, actual huge people, having one because you are enamoured with cute ickle babies, is stupid and selfish.

I gess part of the problem is that i would love another child fullstop. Nt just the newborn bit. Although maybe part of it is for the wrong reasons. Having lost my mum I feel it would lovely to replace a life with a life if you see what I mean.

I'd have 10 if you could give them to me at 2yrs old! The baby bit is the least attractive bit to me. But YANBU to feel a little sad at finally admitting you will never have another child.

Not BU at all. I'm young enough to have more DC, but I don't want any more. A few months ago I sorted through all the old clothes that DS & DD have outgrown and I wept and wobbled and wailed throughout it all.

For me it was all about the memories that the clothes evoked. Buying them, dressing the DC in them for the first time, the lovely memories of a day out when they were wearing a certain top, even just silly things like remembering going to Tesco with DS when he wore his Spiderman outfit. It hit me hard because I realised that those days have passed, and I'll never get them back.

Tesco, we have 4 and the main driving force behind this was losing both my mother and MIL in quick succession. We wanted to give them as much family as possible. I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that one morning. we had fertility problems too so I know how that feels. We are so fortunate to have 2 lovely children. This is why its so daft. For so long I thought we might never have children.

I am going to be the crazy woman who gives her DC a crate of 30-year-old baby clothes when they get pregnant themselves.

It must run in the family - my mother gave me her own little smocked dresses from when she was a toddler.

I am considering having a friend make up the babygros into a patchwork quilt. Is that tragic?

I am getting rid of stuff as dd no longer needs it (she is nearly 5 months) and also slowly sorting through the clothes from ds' in the loft. Even though it is my decision to stop at 3 (plus advice from the surgeon after 3rd c section) I still feel a stab of sorrow that I won't see the clothes on my babies again.

My dd sleeps in the cot I slept in as a baby, my parents have moved house 3 times since I was a baby and it all went with!

Luckily my sister had a baby just after me, so I pass along all the little clothes as we go along. I'd hate to do it all at once!

ninedragons - I think that's a brilliant idea! Don't chuck out too much, your DC will enjoy seeing it when they are old enough to appreciate it!

If any of you mums missing small babies want to come and play with one in Shropshire, you're more than welcome.

We've already got round this one by sharing stuff with friends. DD is just 2 and has mainly been wearing clothes from friends' daughters which were returned to them (along with all of our hardware - cribs, chairs etc) when they had their second kids and we've now got it ALL back again for DC2.

Although wearing slightly shabby and stained clothes, our kids have the biggest collection of clothes in the universe. Its almost embarrassing when you have 30 t-shirts and realise you don't have to do any washing for a month...
