To think sometimes we are being ridiculous

There seems to be rows over the most trivial things on AIBU, just heard on the news that a mother and five children aged 14, 13, 9, 5 and 2 have all died in a house fire and all of a sudden it all falls into perspective.

RIP little ones. How very very tragic. Unbelievable that a whole family have been wiped out.

I saw that too and it is very tragic but people always have their own "ishoos" going on, no matter how insignificant.

One person could be worrying about how they're going to pay the phone bill one month whilst another could be on the verge of losing their house - doesn't make the phone bill any less of a problem to the first person.

There is always tragedies going on in the world and whilst I agree that we should have a little perspective sometimes, people will always gets stressed out about what is going on in THEIR lives - no matter how silly and unimportant it seems to everyone else.

People will always chat about trivial subjects.

You can't spend your life glad your family have not perished in a fire. We all know bad things happen, but while they are not happening we talk. About crap.

Tis awfully sad though and I always feel sorry for the emergency services at times like this Sad

Well, you could equally say that the million deaths from starvation in the ethiopian famine and the millions more left destitute puts that into perspective.

I think it is very dangerous to start down that road. Nothing that other people are suffering makes what you are going through unimportant. You simply cannot get into tragedy top trumps.

There is room for it all. For the trivial arguments and for the deep compassion for the tragic. Having one doesn't mean there is not the other.

Father and another child are in hospital. Sad

Yes you are being ridiculous. For the reasons that the above posters have stated.
