Again sorry, put it in childminder section but no answers. Does anyone know the standard for an adult babysitter? I'm guessing £6 an hour would be ok?

£6/hr is minimum wage so ok but not a great rate, I pay £30/night which is usually about 3.5hrs.

wineandroses · 23/09/2011 16:45

I pay £5 per hour for an adult babysitter, but tend to round up to the nearest tenner.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 23/09/2011 16:46

So £8.50 Meg. That's more than I usually hear of.

Local teenager - £5 per hour & round up to nearest hour. Always full fridge/cupboard made available.

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 23/09/2011 16:47

I pay £6/ hour, plus taxi fare if late (London)

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 23/09/2011 17:09

So that's an average of £6.12 so far. Hmm I wasn't far off. Won't be offerning £6.12 though! Grin

Sitters charges £6.10 per hour, so £6 sounds reasonable

vjg13 · 23/09/2011 17:15

£7 an hour here and round up for an adult babysitter.

meravigliosa · 23/09/2011 17:37

Through an agency round here is £8.50 ph, so I reckon a little less if paying the sitter direct.

splashymcsplash · 23/09/2011 17:40

Pre baby days I got paid 10/hour but this is London.

Depends a lot on your location..

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 23/09/2011 19:13

Is that central London or Greater splash?

Littlefish · 23/09/2011 19:15

£5 per hour in West Midlands.

LeBOF · 23/09/2011 19:16

Six quid sounds okay me, unless you expect them to be doing much in the way of actual childcare. I couldn't bring myself to pay more than that for someone to eat biscuits in front of my telly..

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 23/09/2011 19:17

It seems to vary enormously! I paid a babysitter last year and she was £7 and she is a qualified person who looks after children for a living. So I assumed a bit less for just a regular adult babysitter. Where do you all live?

In London (zone 2) we pay local teenagers £5 an hour and round up, if it's an au-pair / older adult they usually want more - £7ish an hour.

My DC are 10 1/2 and 12 though - I think that's very different to babysitting babies/toddlers or really even under 8's. If the aren't already in bed, they go up to bed when asked and don't need any "looking after"

Groovee · 23/09/2011 19:20

£7.50 ph round here if it's a qualified member of staff or £5 if one of my teenage nieces

RitaMorgan · 23/09/2011 19:22

I pay £6.50 an hour for a senior nursery nurse. Would expect to pay £5 for a teenager. I'm in Bristol.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 23/09/2011 19:30

Hey Dexter! Love it!
