Just seen his l'oreal advert and it really makes me think what on earth is he doing? A fantastic, talented actor advertising some stupid face lift cream... Really? Cringe worthy.

OP posts:
mistressploppy · 22/09/2011 13:37

I thought that but at least he put in an irreverent bit...I can't remember what it was...something about a cliche.

It was like a knowing wink - 'I know this is bollocks but you have to understand how much MONEY they're throwing at me for this Grin'

But then I am in love with him so am prone to making excuses on his behalf...

Malificence · 22/09/2011 13:37

If someone offered you a million or two to do it, would you say no?
I wouldn't. He's obviously taking the piss too, that's why it's funny.

Morloth · 22/09/2011 13:43

Depends on how much they are paying.

I'd do a cosmetics added for a couple of million, no worries.

Tell me what to say, sign the cheque and we are all good.

aldiwhore · 22/09/2011 13:45

I saw it and thought it was more satirical than anything else... and fair do's he's more attractive now than when he was doing Blackadder. I agree with mistressploppy

squeakytoy · 22/09/2011 13:45

Work is work.. money is money.

It has clearly had an effect, because you are talking about it, which is exactly what the advertisers want. Grin

The l'oreal stuff is very good by the way, it is all my husband will use. :)

FilthyDirtyHeathen · 22/09/2011 13:49

Someone will come along in a bit and say 'well he's got to earn a living, how else do you expect him to make a living, if it were you you'd do that to make a living' blah blah blah blah blah.

IMHO advertising face creams (even for men) is a pretty low thing to do. It's basically peddling chemicals, possibly tested on animals for people to rub into their faces in the hope that they won't get wrinkly, old and ugly. Never mind that the creams will in all likelihood make no difference whatsoever and that the 'slebs' peddling them all look great because (a) the ads are touched up or (b) they can afford to spend large sums of money on fillers, botox, skin peels or whatever the latest cosmetic craze happens to be. They are almost certainly not spending 10.99 on the pot of L'Oreal whatever it is they are selling.

I refer everybody to the teachings of Bill Hicks on celebrities who advertise

Aitcherella · 22/09/2011 14:39

I thought it was a spoof advert when I first saw it.

stepawayfromtheecclescakes · 22/09/2011 15:20

oh filthyDirtyHeathen I thought Cheryl Cole really looked that good because she home dyes with L'oreal from a box Grin

MrsBuntyCulDeSacQueen · 22/09/2011 15:30

He's taking the piss out of himself in that ad, isn't he? I don't know, they're all at it aren't they? Stephen Fry provides voice over for many crappy adverts - I thought he'd be more discerning to be honest. Dawn French lends her voice to Tesco, also thought she'd be more choosy... I guess it all about the £££££

FluffyMummy123 · 22/09/2011 15:31

hes not the queen is ihe?

Sewmuchtodo · 22/09/2011 15:32

Im just happy to see him on tv more often! Blush

AvaLafff · 22/09/2011 15:32

no shit sherlock

Bugsy2 · 22/09/2011 15:34

Fancy him so much, so although gutted that he has stooped to advertise a face cream, I am also glad because I get to see more of him. I am so sad - must get out more!!!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/09/2011 15:34

Apparently he is donating all of his fee to charity. And given his status as the most highly paid man on TV at the moment, this must mean that he will be donating a significant amount.

MrsBuntyCulDeSacQueen · 22/09/2011 15:36

I'd actually quite like to see the Queen on a L'oreal ad. Tossing her tiara off, running her fingers through her gently coiffed curls, saying "because one's worth it"...

Curiousmama · 22/09/2011 15:37

Thought it was going to be about his shit singing.

Haven't seen the ad. Very odd though by the sounds of it Hmm

TrillianAstra · 22/09/2011 15:39

Are they not paying him enough to do House?

TrillianAstra · 22/09/2011 15:40

fair do's he's more attractive now than when he was doing Blackadder

Yes, so he really shouldn't be selling anti wrinkle anti ageing skincare bollocks - if he'd had working antiwrinkle cream he'd still look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=4.bp.blogspot.com/_PZa0MTXTEbk/TOmwW82JruI/AAAAAAAAAjE/WPGqGZ8iF1M/s400/Hugh%252BLaurie%252BBlackadder.jpg&imgrefurl=www.smackjeeves.com/forum/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D26%26t%3D2737%26start%3D2235&h=300&w=400&sz=11&tbnid=QbZCx7iiPZiHSM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=120&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhugh%2Blaurie%2Bblackadder%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=hugh+laurie+blackadder&docid=t5Xqo66J61AZ7M&sa=X&ei=zEh7Tpa2BMWh8QPSh509&ved=0CCcQ9QEwAQ&dur=1505" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this!

TrillianAstra · 22/09/2011 15:41

Oh I didn't know that BIWI - which charity?

JugsMcGee · 22/09/2011 15:44

I watched open mouthed in horror until the end when he said "this is not a cliché". Calm was restored Grin

NormanTebbit · 22/09/2011 15:47

I thought he demeaned himself when he was caught getting a BJ from a prostitute in LA

Face cream ads seem a bit tame by comparison

PuspornInBoots · 22/09/2011 15:48

I never quite recovered from Johnny Rotten on the butter advert.... I bet Russell Harty is turning in his grave!

Curiousmama · 22/09/2011 15:51

that was Hugh Grant NT!

WhereYouLeftIt · 22/09/2011 15:52

Ooh, have just watched it on . It is a bit ... different ... from their normals ads.

NormanTebbit · 22/09/2011 15:57

Oh fuck

Ok my excuse is that I have just come back from a root canal at the dentist and feel a bit ..um.. odd
