cebeebies - can you keep a secret?!

Hi,

AIBU to think that the presenter on cebeebies should not have said this (the annoying one from I can cook!)? Yesterday in between two programmes she said 'can you keep a secret? Promise not to tell anyone? - maybe it's just me as work in childcare and we teach children that suprises are ok but they should not keep secrets.

I was just a bit suprised thats all, would have thought they shuold be up on this sort of thing?

Disclaimer - i was watching cebeebies with my son as 38 weeks pregnant adn knackered! Was not watching it in a childcare capacity!

i'm with you on that, but told DD that she used the wrong word, and we had a chat about surprises instead

Glad it wasn't just me. DH thinks i'm crazy! Well he gets it just. I said similar to DS

I say that to my children too, they hear it from lots of places, I seem to be saying it every week at the moment. I suppose really the principle is the important thing rather than the semantics.

Agree I work in childcare and I use suprise instead of secret and explain that we don't keep secrets.

what about secret bullying? or secret stealing? or lies in general

changing the language changes the implications of action for the positive on far more levels.

secrets are not good, but if you can use the word 'surprise' then the behaviour is acceptable
