another thread was mentioning Aunty Mabel in Come Outside and I thought, yes, now that WAS a nice programme. Also think Horrible Histories is quite splendid. Balamory was JUST about bearable along with Bits and Bobs. However there is no excuse for the Tweenies, Zingzillas and Teletubbies. Hell would be these on a constant reel. Ooh and that ruddy In the Night Garden drivel. Ghastly nonsense. Am I just behind the times or is this a rational reaction in response to throughly disagreeable tripe pedalled as children's entertainment?
My children have fallen in love with various programmes from the 1970's and if you listen to the vocab used, well, it's in a different league.

I kind of agree, though not seen the programme you mention. We have DVDs of Mr Benn, Bod, Noggin the Nog, Camberwick Green, Trumpton, and Chigley.

They seem so much more gentle than programmes like numberjacks (that DH and I watched on iplayer and hated immediately).

We have bought a few that they love including Bagpuss, Mr Benn, The Flumps and Camberwick Green. Even Postman Pat and Fireman Sam had a certain niceness/ calm about them that seems to be missing from the ones outlined in first post.

Sadly, my kids when small did not appreciate my Trumpton, Camberwick Green, Bagpuss and Clangers videos. However, they loved Morph and Captain Pugwash.
I agree that In the Night Garden is drivel and so does my ES. It is a shame that they have put it on every night for the last flipping 3 years or so.

However, 'gentle' TV shows don't seem to hold much interest for my toddler, she loves the bright colours and getting up and dancing along/doing the yogo moves in Waybuloo etc.

She likes gentle plot-driven films though.

I used to put on Mary,Mungo and Midge for my boys, when they were small.

My Dad was visiting and said thoughtfully " yes, it was a gentler age^"

The content in many children's shows from the 70's is much more sophisticated ...thinking, Play away.. etc...

My two love fifi too that's quite gentle and classic thomas, not the new shite where the engines have voices, oh no.

Shame they also love dora, she shouts constantly! Manny isn't so bad. They love the old winnie the pooh cartoons too.

Yanbu but you are a bit U too as there is a place for the exciting bright tv shows too.
