To hate this anxiety inducing television?!

Turned TV on (and off) three times this morning, first time there was a graphic video showing starving/dying children in Ethiopia. The second time I turned on it was graphic scenes of a women covered in blood and in a lot of pain being airlifted somewhere. Turn over and there are people screaming and shouting at each other on Jeremy Kyle. AIBU to really hate watching this?

I just want to say I do realise that graphic images are the only way to get across to some people the plight of people in developing worlds and I do donate a lot of money to charity but I find it very uncomfortable viewing.

Well I may be missing something here, but dont watch?

Of course a lot of people find starving children uncomfortable but tehy exist and its real and it wont go away.

I don't know how you can compare that to feeling uncomfortable watching Jeremy Kyle though, everyone knows what his show is like, its no great surprise. Theres an off switch on your TV.

Yes I realise that, I have just had to turn it off 3 times in the space of an hour

Radio 4 is the answer.

TV in the daytime is a bad idea full stop. Unless its old reruns of ER.

YANBU, I find myself turning off the telly quite frequently because it's all so depressing.

cheekeymonkey · 15/09/2011 09:47

I feel the same, already suffer with anxiety and these things can trigger very dark times.
The beeb of course do not have ads.

FilthyDirtyHeathen · 15/09/2011 10:02

I am suffering from anxiety at the moment and I can't even listen to Radio 4 at the moment without something triggering anxious thoughts. I listen to Radio 3 and mute it when the news comes on Sad.

It's no wonder anxiety is on the increase when we are slowing drip fed such dark stuff from the media
