To think you shouldn't be getting a tattoo when pregnant?

I'm not against tattoos, I even have one myself. My cousin has just put pictures of her new tattoo on FB, she is 32 weeks and had it done yesterday.

theres the risk of infection, most tattoo parlours have signs up saying if you think you're pregnant don't get a tattoo

Technically, no you shouldn't because of the (very small) risk of blood poisioning, the tattooist should have explained that to her though.

Ink doesnt enter the bloodstream though, or there would be a lot more to worry about than if you are pregnant!

Well for a start most reputable tattooist won't touch a pregnant woman so she must have gone to some dodgey backstreet place.

If it's in the UK then there shouldn't be a problem with hygeine.

No different than having bloods done in pregnancy.

It's the risk of infection and its valid. There's a reason you can't give blood for a set time after having a tattoo.

YANBU, but only because no one should get a tattoo ever.

But out of curiosity, why specifcally not when preggers? I shall be disappointed if it's out of some misplaced ideal of fecund womanhood glowing muliebrously in an appropriately wholesome and pure fashion.

there is a risk of infection obviously and that in turn could cause you to go into labour prematurely, but i am guessing that the tatoo shop have proper health and safety guidelines in place as regards pregnant women, so if they were happy to do it then it must not advise against tatooing preg women!!

its like eating blue cheese and pate when preg it wont automatically make you ill, its just that it is at a higher risk of contaning the bacteria that can cause food poising so midwives advise against eating it, but in many parts of europe they still eat it!

I wouldn't get a tattoo when pregnanct because a)im not going to be pregnant again, ever and b) they are a shocking waste of money

Specifcally may or may not be a real word.

Body piercing isn't recommended when pregnant, but it depends on where you are having the tattoo done and whether you have had one before.

A reputable tattooist shouldn't be doing a first tattoo on a pregnant woman, but if she has been before, they might.

I wouldn't have a tattoo done when pregnant because A, I shall never be pregnant again and B, I never have had and never will have any desire whatsoever to have a tattoo.

No, ink doesn't enter you blood stream, but a tattoo is a big open wound, infection can set in and people have been known to develop septicemia.

I wouldn't get a tattoo, but i know lots of women who have.

One of my friends has five, she has been tattooed seven times, she had to get a design over her ex H name and had one recoloured. Tattoos don't phase her, or pregnancy, for that matter.

The tattooist should have done a skin test and told her to come backlaterin the day, the main risk is the sensitivity aspect.
