Left for work this morning knowing there was only about 1/2 roll of loo roll left. I left a note "please get some more loo roll". DH and DS(12) were home all day.

I get home and there's no loo roll and only about 1/8 roll left. So I've removed it for my own use. They can use newspaper.

LOVE it. Although I do hope they dont do what my youngest did when she ran out of loo roll, which was pick up a handy DS game booklet (and no I dont know why it was there either) and use it.

Did that once to my DH, he smugly remembered there were tissues - but they were balsam and stung in tender places

You know, I dream that one day someone other than me will monitor loo roll stock levels and no note will be required.

YANBU. My boys share a bathroom and I know they have run out of loo roll when they try and use their sister's rather than walk downstairs to restock. Lazy sods.

I keep a 4 pack of the double length loo rolls hidden precisely for this reason.

They usually get broken out about once a year or so, I try to keep a big pack on the go that get used at and once they get opened I'll keep an eye out for when the next offer on loo roll is or just get it if there hasn't been one in a reasonable time.

However the little pack is kept in a completely different place and ensures that I've always got enough to get me (and dh and the dc if they are nice to me ) through a couple of days until it's possible to get to a shop should the worst happen and we run out and are not able to get out.

And once they get opened, I automatically replace the whole 4pack to go back into hiding as well as just getting some for general use. The rest of the family aren't really aware of them (well dc are a bit little to be aware of anything other than the fact that they appear as if by magic) but it's good to know that you have some back up plan other than relying on others who sound like they are not so reliable! And it's not like it has an expiry date on or will turn into dust if you leave it, even if it sits there for 10 years you will still have it and be able to use it!

i am a toilet roll freak (constantly checking, have to have at least 2 9 packs in the hot press, etc)

but i feel a shopping trip coming on to buy a 4 pack and hide them

Zip thats a bloody great idea will pick up an emergancy stash when out shopping later.

I'm sure my kids eat the loo roll in this house as i'm not sure how we get through so much.

we are currently down to 1 roll between 4 loos at the moment and several times throughout the day yesterday, shouts of "Mum i need some tissue!!!" could be heard

in which i have to locate who's bathroom/toilet it's in then run to whichever loo is being used and hand it over.

I used to go int a village shop. A woman asked for pink loo rolls. They only had blue. So she said...I will wait for the pink ones to come in.....it struck me as funny, but she was after matching colours for her bathroom

A long, long time ago, I worked as a shop assistant on a YTS scheme (government funded employment scheme paying £28 a week for those too young to remember it). The boss gave me the job of monitoring toilet roll levels and replenishing as necessary. One day the toilet roll ran out in the gents and he reduced my 16 year old self to tears with the almighty bollocking he gave me. As punishment I had to do the Christmas extended hours for no extra money. 46 hours a week for £28 of which the government reimbursed him half.

It's a daring tactic, I discovered a couple of weeks ago IN THE WORST POSSIBLE WAY - that someone in my house had wiped their bum with a flannel.

I really wish I hadn't been eating my lunch when I read that last post!

Result! Got home today to find new loo roll AND more washing up liquid. The 12 yo did all his jobs today. We may all happily plop away now you'll be pleased to hear.

I also have an emergency 4 pack of loo roll in the cupboard under the stairs :)
Dh gets a bit arsey with my slatternly housekeeping duties if we run out. This may be why I now have 2 nine packs of toilet roll in the upstairs bathroom and downstairs loo and one under the stairs.
We have no food in the house now but by heck we're not going to run out of toilet roll even if dd does drop a whole roll down the toilet by accident again

When a new roll is on the holder I give it a quick squash so it doesn't roll smoothly and the rest of the family doesn't use as much of it.

When I was a young articled clerk six billion years ago, one of us was sacked for taking work loo-roll home. His defence was that he'd been working 14 hour days and couldn't get to a shop (utterly believable ime).

Two Loo Roll threads on the go at once! And one with a MiL in it! Awesome!
