Return your library books, if you want to keep it go to Waterstones!!! Was going to go a get DD1 a book from the library today, checked on online various local libraries should have multiple copies but some have been due back since 2007. which part of library don't people get.

YANBU I hate this.

No YANBU - my Mum used to work in a library and the number of people who bring things back late, dirty (food stuck in pages!), torn or just don't bother used to drive her nuts.

This really gets me - but here it happens because my peers don't want other people on the course to have access to the good materials, so they keep them to themselves long after the return dates (and exams ), despite fines etc.

People even go to the extreme of hiding the key textbooks (removing them from their shelf location and putting them elsewhere) so they have the edge over classmates. So selfish!

YADNBU. Libraries are a wonderful thing and should be respected.

One of my group at university was a very wealthy young man whom I will here call John Smith. Wealthy and mean; he kept a lot of library books longer than he needed them. And he also had a splendid collection of his own books.

One night after Finals some of us went to see him. When he opened his door we burst in, collected the library books, and then took the best of his books, into which we put stickers which we had had printed saying ?BLANK College ? the John Smith gift ? [year and month].?

We took them to the college library where we left them in the Librarian?s room ? funnily enough the key had been left on a shelf ? and the next morning John found a letter thanking him for this magnificent gift.

Well, what could he say?

Well you can be late in returning them but you do pay!!!

If a book is overdue since 2007 they will owe £100's!

No always so, Sonnet at my local library there's a cap I think for paper back books it's £6 which doesn't exactly scare you in to returning them on time.

The maximum payment is the cost of the book. I found this after discovering some very old library books.

I hardly ever go. They have old dated books and I actually don't think we need library's and they defiantly shouldn't be government funded.

Honeymom - you are a very strange person. Libraries are the only access some peple have to books and learning resources, The fact they arefree to use in this country is a very god thing - and hurrah to the many philanthropists who fubded the first public libraries. Having public libraries is often considered an essential part of having an educated and literate population - so yahboo sucks to you and to the OP, YANBU

You know how we're not allowed to take the piss out of people's spelling and grammar? Are we allowed to if they don't think libraries should be publicly funded, and in expressing this view they show themselves up as unable to spell 'definitely' and form the plural of 'library' correctly? I mean, I wouldn't normally, but given the circumstances ... ?

Also (next mini rant) libraries are more environmentally correct, one book, many uses!!

Honeymom - do you honestly believe that your post is a good argument against the state funding of libraries?

My own belief is that libraries are a very useful tool for improving literacy skills.
