AIBU playgroup snacktime

The playgroup (stay and play) we usually go to with my 2yr old was closed so we went to one in a nearby town.
In my usual one each parent brings a piece of fruit and we cut it up and dish it out. I thought this was normal....
Yesterday for 11am snack my child was offered bread, wotsits, cheese crackers, biscuits and chocolate cake and cheese.
Children of course loved it and I was slightly AIBU as it wasn't a party but happens every week apparently.
Is this what happens at other mum run play groups?

Do you usually not give your child any of these things during the week?

At the mother and toddler group i used to attend, the children were offered a biscuit at snacktime and that was it.

Ive never had to take my own snack along to toddler groups. Ive been to one that had similar snacks to what you describe, others that have offered fruit & toast, one that offered cereal/yogurts etc. They are all different.

Most of the groups round here give each child a plain biscuit (with nicer biscuits for the adults). The main one I use provides fruit for the children, but they are so used to having biscuits that most of them have a biscuit after their fruit. We wait for the fruit only children to leave the table before getting the biscuits out.

Oh ... and cake if it's someone's birthday

It's once a week, it won't do any harm!

The groups I go to (2 different ones) offer biscuits for snack, one is relatively plain ones, the other one is a wide variety and the children are allowed more than one! It doesn't bother me tbh, I usually take some fruit for the walk home, besides which ds2 can only have a limited amount of fruit anyway, so easier to monitor if I am completely in charge of his fruit intake.

It gets my goat when groups offer biscuits. I mean they have non to little nutritional value, they are loaded with fat and sugar. Why is this considered an appropriate snack? We go to a lot of groups and church on Sunday and if I let her have one each time it would be at least twice a week not to mention any other times they crop up.

Sure start have a lovely snack time which includes crackers and cheese but they also include cucumber, tomatoes, grapes, rice cakes, bread sticks and raisins etc which I think is lovely. I think bring your own fruit to cut up and share is a lovely idea.

2 of the groups I attend offer a variety of snacks. The others all offer a biscuit(s) + squash.
It's unusual that a group expects you to bring all your own snacks.

With DC1-2 I manage to limit them to just 2 biscuits per group... . That went out the window with DC3-4. .

a bit of sugar and fat is GOOD for small kids.

Feeding them cucumber and rice cakes....what's the point? No calories, no vitamins, pointless food.

I would say unless you've set up and run a toddler group yourself then yabu. Be grateful others take the time to do it. If it doesn't suit go elsewhere.

I run a playgroup and at snack time each child gets a wafer thin slice of choc cake (I can get about 20 slices out of one M&S choc swiss roll ) and a selection of fruit and a cup of juice so weak it might as well be water .

There are also a variety of biscuits on offer at all times plus cheese and rice cakes.

Some parents let their kids have cake, some don't. It's their choice.

Sometimes (shock and horror) we even do biscuit icing!

I went to one group with DC4 which only offered fruit... NIGHTMARE. We had to leave early several times. DC2-3 were fruit fiends and DC1 would eat fruit if that was all on offer, but DC4 utterly will not partake, no matter how hungry (well, I assume 12 hours of no food he'd break down, but I haven't tried that). I resorted to bringing our own savory biscuits to the fruit-only group.

The playgroup I go to is a bring fruit to be shared one. It's quite big so always seems to be someone's birthday so there's always cake! Mainly it's eaten by the mums whilst we have coffee though

I run a toddler group and a couple of us take turns getting the snacks.

We always have fruit (we go through 4-5 punnets of fruit and then bags of apple slices over and above) then we have other things too like cheese, rice cakes, quavers/crisps, popcorn, biscuits, and if there is a birthday (almost every week!) we have cake. Oh and they get diluting juice too.

The parents get tea or coffee and toast. Plain bread, loads of butter...yum!

Our toddler group runs on a rota basis. Basically, there's a calendar up and if you're free, you sign up to do snacks that day - usually works out about once every 2 months. I usually take fruit/pancakes for the kids, but there's a stock of crisps, biscuits and squash in the cupboard too. The kids usually eat the fruit first!

We have biscuits, toast and fruit and breadsticks. We used to just get biscuits....I dont mind tbh....it;s one of the thing DD loves about the group.

But toddler groups only run for a couple of hours between breakfast and lunch don't they? Or have they turned into all-day affairs that need a full party spread?

Mine would have died if only fruit was on offer. What was the point of going if not for the biscuit and value squash?
