To think my three week old baby did proper smiles this morning?

dh thinks I'm mad but I'm sure she did proper ones, not just wind!

Of course she did!

All mine were smiling at 3 weeks...and I have photos of DS1 laughing and laughing at 5 weeks. (Although he subsequently became very grumpy, so not sure what that was about!)

Mine smiled at 4 weeks

I believe you! My DS smiled at 3 weeks, but only when I was in the room!

My DD1 certainly did so I have no reason to doubt you! Some of them do...you know yourself I think.

I think they are smiling when everyone else says it is wind.

Most of the faces they will see will be smiling at them, so it us very likely to ne one of the first expressions.

I am a HV and I can say categorically that they CAN smile this early as I've seen them do it. Not just windy smiles but proper "let's copy Mum/Dad/big sister/brother" smiles......definitely NOT BU and don't let anyone tell you different.

My dd started social smiling when she was ten days old. My mum refused to believe me until she saw it, but it was unmistakeable.

She still has a happy, smiley nature now. :)

Thank you all! Will jot it down in the baby book! Although I had ds who smiled at four and a bit weeks and then became a very choosy smiler!

You can definitely tell the difference so put it in your baby book! Who knows if the really early ones are 'wind' anyway - maybe they are just practising for the full grin. Why should it be 'wind'? My very pragmatic MIL said "It's just wind" and my very romantic FIL says "She is having a beautiful dream".
