He's 8 weeks old. I guess I just (stupidly) went with Oscar because everyone else seemed to like it even if I was a tad unsure and I didn't want to just leave him with no name. Oscar then stuck with everyone thanks to my blabbermouth mother telling everyone even when I said not to so I didn't feel I could go 'Urmm, not sure I like it actually'. Now I've fallen out with my mum, dad, and pretty much my whole family good times! so now I'm beyond caring about what they think and more worried that my boy has a name I don't like that much.

Nothing to do with your OP as such, but that sounds awful for you to fall out with your whole family when you've got an 8 week old baby on your hands.

How are you getting on coping with such a lot at once?

not sure if your religious , but theres a place on the birth cert where you can change his name at christerning if you do it with in a year i think

I was similar I wasn't sure I liked his name even tho it had been my choice all through pregnancy, I kept thinking should I change his name for months after but now (he's 7 months) and I love his name, it suits him perfect and I believe he has definitely grown into his name!!
So think (quick) about changing his name as he'll be getting use to it himself soon!

As for your family there bound to tell ppl so ur being harsh falling out with them. What did u expect ur mum to say when people asked what her 8 week old grandson was called?

As long as it is not a reaction to the falling out and you honestly feel as though you were pressurised into giving him that name.

You need to make sure that you have worked out all of the issues with your family before they are allowed back into your life. Sometimes becoming a mother can give you strength and confidence.

I haven't completely fallen out with them, but it's gotten to the point where like I said I don't care about what they think anymore, so don't care if they like his name or not, as long as I like it.

That's how it should be, are you sure you don't like it? Like I said I was having similar thoughts about my ds but yet I never could bring myself to change it and now i'm glad I didn't.

Ive got 4 kids and the thing that used to piss me off was the pressure to name them as soon as you had them. Within minutes of their birth the midwives would say whats his/her name so I can write it on the card. With all my kids I had to hold them study their faces and the right name came to me and I've never regretted what I called them. Go with your gut instinct he's your child no one else's, change his name. His name is Rhys sod what everyone else says.

I think it's just the nicknames people come up with for Oscar that drive me fucking insane like Ossiekins and Ossiewossie. I know I could ask them to stop but then I'd probably sound unreasonable!

I'm also fed up with people ringing up to ask how 'Oliver' is Hmm I mean for ffs! learn the name!

But op picked Oscar to begin with and was only a tad unsure, surely if she had been more sure about rhys she would of picked that. I'm just saying make sure its definitely what YOU want op Smile

I don't understand this urgency to name your child either. When dgd was born, my DS and DDIL refused to be pushed into saying what she'd be named since although they had two preferred names, they wanted to see which one of them (if any) she fitted. Later that same day they'd decided she wasn't a Ruby!

Ps I think both Rhys and Oscar are lovely names and ppl will make all sorts of stupid nick names for any name u pick unfortunately

God I've turned into a right cow since becoming a mum. Where I would've previously let things go before now I'm like a dog with a bone and seem to be constantly screaming in an Eastenders-like tone 'I'm not 'aving that!'

I'd liked Rhys before but everyone said it was 'too welsh'. Well guess what, I'm now moving to Wales later in the year to start uni, so figure being 'too welsh' won't be an issue.

Just hope no-one starts ringing to find out how 'Rob' is, lol.

LOL- how can a name be "too Welsh"? Its a Welsh name!!!!! There are far more "really Welsh" names out there!
Rhys is about one of the simplest Welsh names there is!

I love the name Rhys, but my DN was already Rhys, and we have same surname so didnt use it (went for Iwan instead)

My brother is a 'Rhys', I've always loved it, especially the proper Welsh spelling, rather than Reese or Reece.

Ok, so my fickle mind has changed again. I'm still thinking of changing my son's name, but am now thinking of changing it to Jake, which is currently one of his middle names. I tried Rhys out for a day, and while I think it is a lovely name, it just doesn't quite suit him and doesn't feel quite right. Jake seems to suit him a bit more, but will it be ok for when he's grows into a boy and then a man?
