To delete colleagues who spout hate off FB?

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/07/2011 23:56

I'm dismayed by so many peoples attitudes who are "friends" on FB....some are colleagues, but every time I log on to FB I can feel my blood pressure rising...from comments that are anti children to the latest round of hate filled bile about addicts in the wake of Amy Winehouses death, my brother was an addict, our childhood was dreadful, I've updated my status to show my displeasure but I think a cull is the order of the day...but then I will bump into some of those I'm gonna delete at work.... To be fair the ones in for a culling are very young and have no life-experience... Most of my colleagues are like me.....thank god...should I just cull and be damned?

debivamp · 24/07/2011 00:23

I did a big cull on my FB - it was liberating - enjoy yo9u will feel sooo much better - who needs these people, i mean are they really your friends?

Bohica · 24/07/2011 00:27

Get rid pronto.

DontCallMePeanut · 24/07/2011 02:23

I had a slight cull earlier... felt kinda refreshing Grin

Cull away!

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/07/2011 02:30

Everyone wants a Like button here. I need a Dislike button on FB.

BitOfFun · 24/07/2011 02:31

Culls are very liberating.

Kallista · 24/07/2011 02:38

I culled: a best mate's fiance who starting sharing racist jokes (I think she should cull HIM); some distant acquaintances who were constantly making very very boring status updates; & certain colleagues who I realised were only on facebook to get gossip. One colleague was an older woman I've known for 6 years & who let me down badly at work.
I feel much better & so will you!

yanbu

schomberg · 24/07/2011 06:06

YANBtheslightestbitU. I pared my friends list down a while ago and I wish I'd been more careful from the start. There were some people who might have taken a delete poorly so I removed them from my newsfeed (not sure if you can still do this). It's much more pleasant coming in to a shorter newsfeed that is 90% from people I genuinely like or am interested in.

schomberg · 24/07/2011 06:07

Oh oh, I should have checked this before I posted. But if you go to your newsfeed and hover to the right of their status an x should appear. You can click "hide all by x" and they will no longer appear in your newsfeed. This might be simpler than deleting them.

thestringcheeseincident · 24/07/2011 06:17

I would delete them.
And then simply if they ever asked (highly unlikely I think) I would say I didn't agree with them posting the tripe they did.
Wankers.

Andrewofgg · 24/07/2011 08:47

I keep seeing reasons to stay off FB. In my place of work the computers are barred to it. Good thing too.

Punkatheart · 24/07/2011 08:53

I have zero tolerance for idiots. Luckily, I have already chosen my friends carefully and I do not have any of this. But I would delete if I had someone spouting unpleasant and intolerant nonsense.

StoopidBint · 24/07/2011 09:06

I think if your block rather than delete, they can no longer 'see' you, so they'd just assume you're no longer on FB.

sleepindogz · 24/07/2011 09:45

i just block and delete without a second thought

yes everyone is entitled to an opinion whatever it may be, but i am also entitled not to agree with that opinion and ignore them

catgirl1976 · 24/07/2011 09:48

I have culled people before was posting racist or offensive twaddle. Modt of the posts seemed to be these "post if you..." forwarded crap rather than something they thought of themselves but that just gave me an extra reason to remove them.

A couple of people have asked why I have deleted them and I have said, I didn't want to be associated with someone who would post x or y, sorry.

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/07/2011 12:07

I've added people from work etc who the more I speak to, and the more I read, the more I realise I just dont like... But our paths cross, I really want to just delete but in a few weeks im on a course with one if them...if you delete them do they know? I mean do they get a notification saying who deleted em or do you just vanish into the ether as far as they're concerned? To be fair, some of them have written something then their half wit friends have made some awful comments...luckily they aren't my friends. I would take myself off FB if it wasn't how I keep in touch with friends overseas.

I cull people all the time. I am not even shy about it.

But, I do get annoyed when people cull you for having an opinion. Racists etc yeh, cull them 100%. It's when I don't agree with someone and suddenly I am off their friends list. It bugs me even more when people write a controversial status update then the second someone disagrees they get deleted.

I use fb 24/7 but I hate it with a passion and I wish I could kill it!!!!

Onemorning · 24/07/2011 12:22

YANBU. I deleted one yesterday after the Amy vs. Norway death post. I nearly deleted her after last week's racist pensioner vs. immigrant post, but this week was the last straw. I think she's a heartless cow.

HildaOgden · 24/07/2011 17:02

You could set up a second facebook account (with a different email address).Invite all your real friends on to that one,and leave all the mindless idiots less desirable accquantainces on the original one. That way,you dont risk them getting offended, and yet you can ignore all their drivel by never logging into that original account.

*note to self...I should actually do that myself,it's a good idea :o

MadStaringEyes · 24/07/2011 17:33

YANBU, I did the same yesterday.

fluffles · 24/07/2011 17:36

they don't get told if you delete them, but they may get a suggestion that they become friends with you which will give away the fact that they're not anymore.

i cull anybody i don't like.
and i 'hide' anybody that i do like but who posts too much or plays any of those stupid games.

ThatVikRinA22 · 25/07/2011 00:43

well i have begun my cull....and ive updated my status to say that the next fuckwitted comment will result in a deletion....am awaiting the killing spree!
