Family comes first?

I may be being unreasonable, I am on the fence so looking for opinions not an attack.

DBil can get Half price tickets for The Singing Kettle.
He got 4, for himself and his DD, his GF and her DS. But they split up and he had 2 tickets spare.
He put it on facebook that they were going spare.
A friend said he would take them.
5 mins later I logged on and asked did he know that we were down that weekend, any chance the cousins could go together?
Nope, his friend was first, so his friend gets them.
He said he would try to get more tickets for us but forgot and by the time he remembered they were gone.
He suggested I try the box office.

Is it first dibs or should it be Family first, sorry mate?

oh thats rotten,we love singing kettle

worraliberty · 10/08/2011 22:39

First dibs imo too

suzikettles · 10/08/2011 22:40

First dibs. I'd never go back on my word once I'd promised someone.

Because it's really annoying and disappointing - as your brother is finding by being let down by his mate.

twinklingfairy · 10/08/2011 22:48

Yup. I agree with the first dibs thing, have agreed with it, further into the thread.
Just, now, am annoyed cos the geezer didn't turn up!

BIL should have confirmed that they would meet at the door. Don't think he did.
The mate may well have agreed with me and assumed that he tickets would got to family.
But we will never know, cos I certainly won't be bringing it up again with BIL.
He must have felt awful with 2 empty seats and me having been so keen to go.
What a waste Sad

yeah, me too, scottishmummy, and how much more fun would it have been for my DD to have gone to a real theatre, than a town hall. Sad
ho hum............

YABU,but it is disappointing that he didn't think of you first.

And I'm amazed that The Singing Kettle is still going.I went to their shows, and had all the videos when I was a kid,and I'm 27 now.

I still have a terror of choking on a piece of potato in my soup thanks to Artie and co.

bubblesincoffee · 10/08/2011 23:06

I think you need to get over it, in the nicest possible way.

The fact that the mate didn't turn up is nothing to do with you, they were never your tickets.

Your dd hasn't missed out on anything, because she never had the chance to go in the first place. She has only missed out on something in your head, that was never going to happen in reality.

SleepyFergus · 10/08/2011 23:08

Just an aside, my SIL used to work at the theatre where I live where TSK used to perform when in town.

She said they were complete gits off stage, nasty to the kids, staff and generally very unpleasant. Then all smiles when the curtains went up.

twinklingfairy · 11/08/2011 21:58

Bubbles Smile You are absolutely right.
I just thought I would share, cos I had griped about it before hand.

We took DD to the cinema for the very first time to see Cars 2, leaving DS with PIL.
It was lovely to just be DH, DD and I and she really enjoyed the experience.

It was just bloomin typical that that was the way it worked out re the tickets.Smile
BIL sent me a message to come straight to the theatre cos his mate hadn't showed, but by that point we had already bought our tickets, were standing outside the cinema.

ho hum. Biscuit

Sleepyfergus. That does put me off going.
I think I had heard whispers to that effect but not from first, almost, hand experience.

Defo giving it a miss when they come up here.

We had a great experience, in its place. And you are right DD definitely didn't miss out on anything.

scottishmummy · 11/08/2011 22:27
