iPhone/iPod autocorrect

AIBU to want to shoot the prat who didn't think to give us the option of a decent spell checker.
I'm forever blushing at my own posts or seeing others corrections for its lunacies.
Not helped by the app not having preview.

You'd think Apple would be able to afford somebody who knows their arse from their elbow, grammar-wise, to be in charge of auto-correct. Instead of some apostrophe-happy half-wit.

How? Is it in settings?

Yes, in settings, go to General, Keyboard, and switch Autocorrection to off

Tilly you have it spot-on! And why can't it spell the imprortsnt words without going mental... Words like fuckytifuck?!

Hairfullofsnakes - mine learns words! Fucksocks is actually in my autocorrect now. Much to my pride.

Yes you can turn it off, but then you get no spell check at all, and given I'm dyslexic that would mean my posts would look like they were written by a dim Y3.
I just want the red dotted lines and suggestion bit with out the fucking insert complete nonsense bit. Rather better suggestions and an add function would be good too.
