About 7:30 by the time we could hear it, so god knows how much earlier when they started.

What's the problem? I'm always up before 7.00 am on a Saturday.

Give the chap a pat on the back! Many council workers don't bother showing up until 9am and then they have to have a brew before they start work.

I'm guessing you wouldn't like our bin collectors who are here at around 7.30am. But you know, the bins need emptying and the hedges need trimming. 7.30am is not hugely early. No matter what time they started at someone would complain.

A neighbour opposite used to leave his (loud) motorbike running from about 7am to 7.30am every weekday on his drive. Quite apart from it being illegal and dangerous, whenever we had the windows open I could taste the exhaust fumes coming in. Also I didn't have to get up until 7.30pm, in fact I could wing it at 8am, and I'd miss the last precious half hour of sleep before the alarm went off every day, grrr.

I felt like going over and kicking away the supports so that it ended up in his hall, but fortunately we moved house before I succumbed to that. :)

I thought the law was 11pm and 8am - I stand corrected, and pissed off for OP and the hedge trimmer :(

For some reason I can cope with being woken up hours before I'm due to, but being woken up half an hour before I'm meant to really winds me up.

Between the hours of 11pm and 7am you are entitled to quiet. All about noise nuisance and the law here

They have probably reduced the number of people cutting the hedges by 50%, so the poor man probably has double the work which is why he is cutting the hedge at 7.30am.

I'm with the OP. 7.30am is too early to be making that kind of noise.

Am sure she was just venting frustration when she referred to him as an idiot. And I'd be inclined to do the same.

I do treework/hedge trimming. We try not to do anything before 8 but sometimes if you've got a big day on needs must. I would be v sympathetic to anyone who came out and complained and would try my best to keep the noise down.(Maybe able to some other quieter jobs first) But if the person still wanted to have a go, or call me a fucking idiot I'd tell them to get fucked and grow up. (but only as a last resort)

Perhaps they don't have to start work until 9.30, perhaps? Not everyone starts work at the same time, even in the private sector.
