Year 6 Prom

I have just found out that what I thought was a yr 6 leavers disco is in fact a Prom!! Why on earth do kids leaving junior school need a prom, whats wrong with just a disco where my son and his friends can wear a favourite football shirt and pair of trainers. Yes I know he could still go to the prom wearing that but the expectation is for smart clothes. Wouldn't be quite so bad if they hadn't had a weeks residential on the Isle of Wight just last week that was £££. Am I being unreasonable to be peed off with the school (normal state junior school by the way)???

Dress, tights, hair ornament, jewellery, shoes for DD.

I've said it a few times on MN now but THERE ARE SECONDARY BLAZERS, TIES AND LOGOED POLO SHIRTS TO BE BOUGHT THIS MONTH!

Plus yes, cost of things to take to the residential trip and a £20 treat day out as well. Bloody stupid things.

We've called ours a prom, but it's a party I'm not buying DS2 anything for it. In fact he's decided to wear his Dalek t-shirt and smart jeans. You don't have to fork out loads of money, although its your prerogative if you choose to.

Year 6 is an odd year. Some children are more mature than other, some want to dress up; some don't. It's just a name (which in our case the children voted to use) I have to say though that our party has nothing to do with school apart from the fact that they traditionally let us use the facilities and the PTA give a donation towards the costs. All the arranging and organisation is done by the parents!

Infestation you have just reminded me about the £100 forked out last month for secondary school uniform, and thats without shoes! Have heard earlier about various arrangements being made for transporting the kids to the school, some parents hiring limos, FGS its not a Prom as in a Yr 11 prom. Herbie I am relieved that I have just boys, hearing what some of my friends have spent on their girls for their Yr11 proms is frightening, and thats without the dress - hair, make up, nails, spray tans - crikey when I left school 25 years ago it was just a disco!
