right... AIBU to sometimes think it would be good to rename MN as gender-neutral, e.g. ParentsNet?

OP posts:
LineRunner · 09/07/2011 14:02

Yes.

Orbinator · 09/07/2011 14:02

Don't think that would work...I'm pregnant so not technically a parent yet. Some people on here are trying to conceive or have no kids, etc. You can't please all the people all of the time.

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 14:02

YANBU. Have some Brew :)

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon · 09/07/2011 14:03

but it was set up by mums.....

LineRunner · 09/07/2011 14:04

'Set up by mums by taken over by men as soon as it started being socially important-Net'.

LineRunner · 09/07/2011 14:05

Fuck.

'Set up by mums BUT taken over by men as soon as it started being socially important-Net.'

MadYoungCatLady · 09/07/2011 14:05

I can see where you are coming from OP, but the name 'mumsnet' is quite famous now so I think it would be too late to change. I assume it started lif as a forum for mums?

MadYoungCatLady · 09/07/2011 14:05

*life

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 14:08

Once something becomes traditional and entrenched, it's pretty hard to get people to change, even if they'd make a different decision if starting from square one...

catgirl1976 · 09/07/2011 15:34

Is there a nunsnet? They should totally have one.

purplepidjin · 09/07/2011 15:36

Mr Marks and Mr Spencer and Mr Sainsbury are all dead yet the shops are still named after them. Why change a good brand name?

Orbinator · 09/07/2011 15:38

Yorkie Bars still trade on the strapline "Not for Women" but we don't let that stop us getting at the chocolate Wink

tethersend · 09/07/2011 15:49

YummyParents wouldn't sound so good when they're slagging us off on the news.

But, in principle, YANBU.

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 16:41

You know, Orbinator, I really wish I didn't like Yorkies...

AgentZigzag · 09/07/2011 16:47

'Bumsnet' would be gender neutral, and reflect the posters into the bargain.

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 16:50

Or how about Scrumsnet?

MoreBeta · 09/07/2011 16:52

MrMan - nope. Been argued endlessly in the past. Never going to happen. You know what women are like once they make up their mind. Hmm

AgentZigzag · 09/07/2011 16:52

'Slumsnet'? For when AIBU swallows up the rest of the boards.

AgentZigzag · 09/07/2011 16:57
SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 17:27

With all the biscuits I've seen on here recently it has to be Crumbsnet!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 09/07/2011 17:31

Nobody is going to allow the name to be changed when publicity for Mumsnet is involved, are they? Branding and all that. I think it should stay as it is anyway. If men are posting on it then it obviously doesn't matter to them what it's called.
