Sure this won't take long but...

How did it develop/come about?

From another thread?

I have only been here a few months :)

People were starting threads AIBU to...

So many of them that people started to think AIBU should be a topic of its own!

However.

Now everyone puts EVERYTHING in AIBU, and the site may as well get rid of all other topics Grin (or hire me to file everything properly... )

Actually, I think AIBU should be the same as Chat - poooof after 90 days.

Thank you themagificent

I was wondering if I should put this question here :)

I think the reason AIBU is so popular is because it is alphabetically listed when you look at recent posts. If this were not the case (or perhaps if I decided I felt like looking in a particular place such as Relationships, instead of being lazy Wink) I think people would probably post in the relevant places more often. It's just easier to post in AIBU as most things can be headed up that way.

I love the fact you can get a bit of everything in one place - its all well and good searching out the appropriate topic if you are posting, but if you just want to reply to some stuff, AIBU is much easier, and I'm guessing its why it gets more traffic than other topics.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 09/07/2011 14:25

I think it's in a loop now.

AIBU is popular so everyone posts there to get replies so it becomes more popular so everyone HAS to post there to get replies so it becomes more popular...

It's just becoming the place where everyone posts everything because you know you'll get replies. chat, parenting, health, etc etc - it's all in AIBU.

I wonder if we really need lots and lots and lots of different topics, tbh. Trying to break the site down into really specific sections doesn't seem to be working.

worraliberty · 09/07/2011 14:34

I think this site has far too many topics...that's what makes a lot of them too quiet.

Ebay was the same. Years ago they had just a few chat boards, then they added loads of different categories until almost all of them became too quiet.

I think MN could do with culling a few back.

Its interesting ... I soppose if everyone could handle the sometimes harsh responses this could be a catch all section? Grin

worra out of interest, what sections do you think could be let go ? :)
