Personal trainer recently set up his own gym and is already moving to bigger premises. He wants to include a creche/social area

I train with him and also work with people with SN (currently adults but 6 years of experience with varying age groups). I'm NVQ3 qualified, first aid, crb etc

So we had a conversation about me opening a creche for him. I won't say which gym or where because this isn't market research, more aibu to ask you to trust your children with someone of my experience while you worked out, and how much would you pay? (Not central london)

I'd trust you. Presumably you would have all the right insurance, checks on the premises and anything else you need to legally be able to charge for looking after other peoples children. So what's not to trust?

How much I would pay would depend on how much the gym membership or personal training sessions cost, and on how many adults to children there were, what the creche was like, what you provided etc.

I would trust you, providing I could see your credentials, you had the correct insurance, and had a CRB check. Also that the equipment and premises were up to my standards- clean, safe, age appropriate.

I think I would probably be happiest if the creche cost was "built in" to my gym membership and if I got some sort of discount for signing up to gym+creche for say 12m.

Otherwise as a drop in, I would pay about...£3/kid per hour. That is 60p less than my childminder.

God yes sounds reaonable, charge about what other creches or preschools do in your area, considering what is economical.

I'd ask to see evidence, same as I do when I choose a nursery, preschool, whatever.

I know the nearest council-run gym creche charges £3.75 and hour if that helps.

Sounds like a great idea, I'd definitely use a crèche if it meant I could have an hr in the gym. I have no idea about price - up to £5 an hr maybe?

Don't worry - when they are running round wiping bums and noses you will have your life back and older children - i speak from bitter experience - my DCs are now 11 and 9 and most of my friends have babies and toddlers.....and i am only because it's the ones who previously acted as if my life was over for having children so young that now think they are the only people in the world to ever have a baby ever.....

Sounds like a good idea. Ring Ofsted and see what you need to have in place.

I would bite your hand off for a gym with a crèche. I would pay max £5 per hour though as I presume the gym membershi would be quite a lot. I would say that an earlier start and finish may be beneficial- as bed times have to be adhered to. I'd probably do 7-4 . Parking would also be important .

£3 was the figure I had in mind, simply because that makes it pay at least my wages with just 2 children. Overheads will be incorporated anyway because the gym bit will still be open. Perhaps £4 one-offs, £3.50 for 6 sessions, £3 for 12 sessions. Times would need to be booked and paid for in advance, but if I'm not full then only by a day or so. I probably need to be strict on that because I also have my own business (sewing) and i'll be running that alongside. And there's no reason why a person couldn't book 3 weeks of Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2pm...

AFAIK there are no actual creches round here, although probably a fair few childminders! I can't see a childminder taking a child for an hour a week though, don't they normally do Morning or Afternoon sessions? None of the local council gyms have a creche, or any particularly good facilities for the under fives

Age range 6 months to 11 years? I don't think I need to go older, secondary school kids are much more independent. I would consider exceptions for older children with SEN, simply because I have some experience. That would probably have to be negotiable as a 1:1 though
