Hi all.
I've done a mixture of blw & a bit of puree and I think it's been a success. My little fella has a great appetite & when he's full he does the usual food throwing nonsense. I must admit I find it quite amusing :o
Anyhow, I was on the phone to my mother & she raised her concerns about ds throwing his food & said maybe he doesn't like what I feed him Confused. Can anyone explain why she's against me letting him throw his food, I know it's a completely natural part of growing up, bit she seems to think it needs nipping in the bud!?? He's only 14 months.. :)

Why would you be pro him throwing his food? Doesn't it make a mess?

What if you're out and about?

How can I stop him though, he's still a baby. Her comment on the phone was after we'd been out. I will always clean up after him.

You can take the food away from him so he can't throw it. You can say 'No'. Stopping showing that you're amused by it would also help.

I ussually remove it at the throwing stage...normally means she is bored

at 14m i don't think he should be throwing food. I'd give a warning after the first time and if it happened again take it away for good. he'll soon learn!

I wouldnt want mine to throw food at that age BUT it is probably nothing to do with the food itself (i.e im sure its fine). I tend to tell them not to do it and if they keep doing it end the meal since they are obviosuly not hungry. Could the portions be too big for him maybe?

I honestly didn't realise I should be teaching him not to do it at 14months. Blush New day, new start tomo then! I'm so glad I didn't tell my mum to shut up Grin

Depends what yoy mean by throw really.

DD used to chuck all her food on the floor at this age, it was extremely annoying. But I would say nothing and once it was all gone say that was the end of the meal, take her away, chuck out food and then offer the next meal a little earlier than usual.

She did grow out of it I promise. They just think it's interesting! Most toys aren't light enough to throw...

DD is 16mo and still throws food. I see it as part of the learning experience. We don't tell her off as she thinks it's a game, we just take whatever's left off her.

Bit of mess is no harm.

ds is 10 months and blw, he only throws food when hes had enough or theres too much on his tray, i put a few things on and if he throws it, i offer something else from his plate, if he carries on then he isnt hungry and i take it away

I think if hes throwing his food, hes telling you he isn't hungry, hes had enough to eat. Remove food and give him a toy instead. Playing with the food in his hands and exploring the texture is different to throwing it away. Throwing it away is a very clear signal to you..
