To connect a condemed cooker

it failed on the knob, it snapped over 2 years ago and I have never had any problems with the cooker

It has failed as with the knob snapped it over rides the safety feature( when you close the lid the gas goes out) any how I never puts the lid down when the cooker is hot

Dw is a condemed cooker and she as also failed on the Knob part

Who/which agency condemned the cooker? Have they stuck a big sticker on it? Has the cooker been disconnected from the gas supply, and does it have a bayonet type connection?

Is it possibe to obtain a replacement part (i.e a knob)?

how old is the cooker?

you should be able to replace the shut-off valve (the part that kicks in if the lid closes)

That's as maybe, but your dw does at least have a (presumably) unbroken Knob Juan.

Can your dw spare you long enough for you to act as a whole knob for Auntie's cooker so that she can get on with her Sunday roast? Grin

If it has been condemned then no-one who is Gas Safe registered would connect it, which means that you would be doing it yourself?

And it hasn't been used in 2 years since the knob broke? So pipes and components could have perished in that time?

TBH I wouldn't - it could prove disastrous.

The part is on order, the cooker is 6 years old.

But the part is going to take over a week to be delivered, how can I last a week without a cooker

We have our roast on a Saturday (which I made)
On Sunday we enjoy ourselves and have something quick for tea like pasta

My knob could do with a tweek though

Have you recently had an engineer in to look at replacing the broken part, and he has condemned it?

The knob is just for turning the ring on, I have been using since it broke and the gas goes on and off with no Problems. I have been using the cooker as it is safe.

I am having a whole new kitchen and before the cooker went back in it was checked by a gas man

If you can re connect a condemed cooker it has not been cut off properly becuse when they do condem an appliance they should cap off the gas flow to the cooker/fire etc and make it impossible to reconnect

By law he has to condemn it, as a major safety device isn't working.

If he has disconnected the gas supply, you could be breaking terms and conditions of insurance and/or any tenancy agreement(if you're renting) if you reconnect it and then use it until the repair is complete and tested by a Gas-Safe enginner.

Sorry not DISCONNECTED, but interrupted the gas supply ie shut the supply bvalve off

can you borrow a camping stove? then use the microwave as well?

it's crap being without the things you're used to, at least it's summer and you don't need a hot meal to warm you up

Could you borrow a slow cooker? Food steamer? George Foreman grill thing? Microwave? Bbq? - disposable ones in our 99p shop

I can easily cook a meal in a steamer. Small new potatoes do in about 20 mins, fish and veg about 7 mins. I do eggs in a poach pod in the steamer which takes about 8-9 minutes. I'm sure I could happily live with just the appliances in my kitchen minus the cooker for a week (even without my freezer stash or using the grill in my microwave). I do also have a rice maker and a George Foreman style thing though.
